I'm not buying either, too much money for a system that cant be upgraded and will slowly go oblosete. But since I came to college and my roommate has an Xbox...

Well lets just say that Halo + Guild Wars have taken a 2x4 with a nail in the end and beat the living crap out of my GPA.

So if I had the money, Xbox 360, if only for Halo 3, or should I say, the rest of Halo 2.

Phobac - your end statement is what really puzzles me. If you believe that Halo 2 was really half a game (as many do), then why even bother buying Halo 3? Corporations like MS will continue to shove crap down your (a collective 'your' here) as long as you put up with it.

The money you spend is a basic voting power. If people did not buy Halo 3, then companies would realize that giving them half a game is not the way. BUT, if the same amount of peopel buy Halo 3, and Microsoft made 2x the profit, other companies will follow suit.

If a company screws me over (ala Halo 2), I drop 'em dead and don't go back.

ill be getting both , as both are bound to have games im dying to play, but 360 will come first in the budget. . . . .and who knows? maybe nintendo WILL do someting revolutionary . . . like release a stable system (with more than 10 worthwhile games) that isnt portable !! :O:O

Backwards compatible to PS1 (right now). And the specs looks very good. Give me GT4 and KillZone2 or whatever and I'll be sold.

I'm not going to buy either for a while. My brother in-law always buys all of the systems early on-ish and I just play his. Since we have the same taste in games and such. But if I did have to choose, xbox 360. Halo 3 is gonna be awsome. Splinter cell 4 is gonna be the best.

I don't care about backwards compatible. If I want to play a old game, I will just bust out the old system.

Oh and Sam Fisher > Solid Snake

Metal gear has just twisted and korny plot lines that I hate. And you gotta love Sam's dark sence of humor.

Good point. But like I said, I dont have any money so I wont be buying an xbox 360, nor do I have an xbox. I just play my roomate's.

I wont have to worry about issues of questionable consumer support until I'm out of college and I have to join the rest of you in the real world.

PS3, their dual core chip is gonna poon the 360 with twice the power and their 54 gb brdiscs, hell, with true hdtv, built in wireless net, and all that it is too hardcore, although more expensive and a later release date, PS lines usually have games i prefer anyways. Although i won't probably buy any of those system, with ps3 expected to be at like 400-500, PC beats all.

I may not be getting a PS3 for a while after its out, due to money issues, I never got my PS2 til a few years after it was out, just got my GC in fall, I don't really care when I get it as long as I like what I can get for it.

I'm all for Sony's PS3. The new Xbox looks like the retarded offspring of a PC and a failed platform. For all intensive purposes, the Xbox360 should be called the Xbox2 because if you take something and turn it 360°, you end up with the same thing! Analysis of platform names aside, I am going with the PS3 because Sony has an established reputaion of bringing consumers the a wide variety of fun and challenging games that are worth the price invested. I purchased an Xbox solely on the fact that Halo was a title exclusive to the platform; to me, Bungie failed to deliver on Halo2 the same fun factor and replayability that the original had when it came out.
The PS3 is reported to have the Cell core chip with 9 parallel processors generating a floating processing capability of 2 terraflops! The reported specs of the PS3 are a geeks wet dream.

Well, to be fair, there are two competing next-gen DVD formats. Sony backs blu-ray, and that is why they offer it. MS can't really afford to support either - its simply too early.

My comment about voting with your money still stands. Just because something has 'power' does not make it easy to develop for, nor does it make it 'better'.

Again, until the systems come out and so do their games, this is just rabid fanboyism.

I haven't owned a console since the PS1, as I was relatively uninterested by the current gen systems. However, I am actually quite excited by the PS3 and Xbox 360. If the games are right, I may purchase one... I'm leaning towards the PS3 due to Sony's apparent grasp of a large majority of japanese developers [ie. great games]. But only time will tell.

However, if Killzone does turn out to be better then the first one, which has a great idea just poorly executed, then I may buy the PS3.

It really all depends on the games, not the specs.

XBOX 360 is the way for me. I haven’t found any RPGs on any consoles that have pulled me away from the PC (Guild Wars, Never Winter Nights, and Elder Scrolls). But my other hitch is FPS and so far the best shooters, other than Half Life and Far Cry which will be out on XBox soon, are on the XBox for example Halo 2, Chronicles of Riddick, and Co/Op Doom 3.

Halo 2 w/XBox Live is it when I am not here. Yes the story pissed me off but the online gaming made up for it and then some. It set a new standard for matchmaking on Xbox Live.

Actually, you can upgrade them PS3 comes with upgradeable ram and removeable/pccompatable hdd and removeable/replaceable NVIDIA cards (yes thats right cards, it runs 2 at once). I'm not sure about the 360.

While its true pc gaming has its benefits, so does console gaming. Many of the best games ive played have been console, and good times. I cant exactly play pc games with friends (i mean 'real' friends, get urself some ppl). Lastly, who gives a damn if its not upgradeable, i mean its not like ur spending a s**tload of money on it, i mean u could have bought a playstation 1,2,and 3
for less than a computer. Usually consoles keep up or even surpass current pc gaming at first, but yes that does change and thats when u can get yourself a new version console. So my words to, sit down, have a beer and get ur next generation gamin on with some friends...
