Google ad to learn witchcraft
I found this pretty amusing. It popped up on the main page earlier.

I would never learn witchcraft; I would try to learn necromancy instead

Wicca isn't witchcraft...lol. I know a traditional witch, if she find this thread she will write pages of how it isn't so.

Oy. Yes, alas, one of the less savory aspects of the neopagan community (such as it is) is the ways various members of it continually try to disassociate themselves from each other. I've seen enough tirades against Wicca to choke a horse.
Sufficeth to say, not every witch is Wiccan, and it would not really be proper to say Wicca is witchcraft, rather that Wicca includes (a form of) witchcraft in addition to a lot of stuff that isn't really related to witchcraft at all.
But in any case, people that leap to the attack any time you aren't exactingly careful with your use of these terms grow tiresome after awhile. Hopefully your friend will spare us the pages of explanation for why Wicca and witchcraft aren't synonymous.

While I don't agree with this ad at all from a spiritual viewpoint...
I do find it quite amusing to see 'certification' ads for witchcraft...
Maybe Microsoft should get in on this. "Get your MCSW Now! Microsoft Certified Systems Witches certification now available! We don't know how our stuff works, so why not try a few herbal remedies for that system incompatibilty! Train at home! We'll provide the non-working computer, you provide the paganism...."

Do you use firefox or something that blocks adds? I don't see it at home because I use firefox, but I did see it at work, which is where I saw that one.

Hey, I'm not judging or declaring anything. I'm just posting what I saw. There were only 2 adds, and one was for wicca and one was for witchcraft. Tell her to gripe at google. Griping here wouldn't accomplish anything.
I just find it amusing that google scanned the page I was on and found it appropriate to show witchcraft adds.

Yeah, I've been considering sending Google a note, "Hey, for those kinds of adds, you should be scaning for 'magick', not 'magic'." I assume that's the language it's picking up on, although 'spells' is probably tickling it to present those ads as well. Computers just aren't very good at determining context.

Ah, yes I do use Firefox and that is probably why.
I blocked out most the ad images I've seen on other sites and those probably have the same root source as one of the others I've banished.
Edit: Wth is a muggle? Sounds sexy.

unless you practice wicca or some other magickal art, you really wont understand the slight yet significant nuances of the religions and practices. even those who practice will have different ideas of what a witch is or what they call even themselves.....its at its core a religion....poor subject as with politix to discuss

Not much of a witch them, a teenager into tarot with a book on runes.
Wicca, Witch Craft, Toaism, there are strong links between them all and any witch worth there salt would realise this. Ranting about how other assume just shows a lack of understanding.
I used to be..
Healler, spiritualist healler, Clarivoyant, palmist, rune reader and yes it works, and yes there is more to heaven and earth than any mere mortal will ever understand. Why did I stop? Because it is a search for answers, I found mine.
If people ask me for healing I will offer it free, same with readings. Alas the majority are not actually solving others issues, but adding to them and that is another reasons I stopped, the only person who can truely help a person is themselves.

Bah. It's not that difficult. Wicca is a religion. Witchcraft is not, it's just an activity people (of many different religions, including some Christians) engage in. The only problem comes when people wrongly conflate the two, and start assuming someone is Wiccan because they're a witch. That really pisses off the non-Wiccan witches. The other direction is safer: assuming a Wiccan is a witch, but even that's not necessarily true.

It's been going now for a while in case you haven't noticed. Why do you think people call computer enthusiasts "Computer Wizards"? Why do you think when you ask one how they fixed their computer and they reply "Magic"?

And then you'd get the Witches getting all riled up and offended. XD
