You can try but it aint legal or is it easy. Aparently Microsoft really got sick of OS Pirating and now requires you to actualy regester your copy of Windows XP withen 30 days or it will be deactivated. The regestration certifies that your IP is the ONLY IP that the key will work on. I would suggest that you go down and get a $100 copy of Windows XP SP2 -UPGRADE- and then either use a key to an exist OS you have or borrow a buddies (The upgrade is $200 cheaper but requires that you prove you already own an older version of Windows VIA on the hard drive or CD Key).

The illigal way is just a pain and most likely wont work. It requires IP scramblers, which can fry your PC since it alters your regestry. Hope this helps dude, and good luck.

Yes you can do it. It's just a simple matter of installing from the same disk, if you get any error saying that the activation key thing isn't working call support and ask for another. If they ask "have you installed this software on any other computer" reply how you want. The way to get another key is to say no, the way to get them mad at you is to say yes. A friend of mine went and did this yesterday...whether or not it was a good idea, I don't know.

I have the same copy on both my computers, just installed it without the activation. Runs fine and never had to finalize it with the IP. How did I install XP so that I somehow got past and never asked for the registration? That's a good question, just installed it and it never asked me for it. Go figure 'eh?

I figure hell I bought this copy, I will use it on whatever computer I want. I mean hell I use my "Doom 3" disk on any computer I want, I sure as hell didn't intend to buy another copy of windows XP. It isn't legal really. I didn't know that at the time I did it though...oh well.

You have to register each copy of Windows XP. Therefore, you could register one copy but after 30 days, the other copy would time out and then you wouldn't be able to run it anymore.

But if you install both copies on the same home network, registration should not be a problem. You would just be breaking your license agreement. And I'm not sure if that's entirely legal. Wouldn't stop me though.

That is why there is a corporate edition of WinXP which doesn't require registration... not that I am using it XD

Ouch...is all I have to say.

I didn't really understand what you were saying, but I saw the word "RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO" (or at least the censor for it) and knew you did something not good.

I've never had any problems installing the same copy on more then one computer. If it is windows XP home then the key can only be used on 5 different hardware configs (ie. 5 different computers). But it could be installed on the same computer many times if need be. I've never had the registration cause any problems.
I don't mean to argue with anyone but I can't see the registration doing anything with the IP address since with almost every type of connection your IP is going to change at some point (home networking IPs aside). And if it did then you'd never be able to re-install your OS on the same computer (ie. formatting).
Windows XP Pro on the other hand can be installed on many different computers with many different hardware configurations as it was ment to be used for businesses with multiple computers.
So I'd say that if you want one OS cd to be used on more then one computer, get your hands on a Windows XP Pro disk...
Just my opinion...
