Well, yes, that is true. NWN is over, what? 4? 5 years old? NWN2 will be wonderful when it comes out. They are upgrading and improving the graphics engine. Also, with the release of the toolset, home-grown builders and world developers will go hog wild.
You must not visit NWVault.com very often, huh? If you did, you would see that there are file updates daily. People are still playing in persistent worlds and developing modules using the original NWN toolset.
Graphically? Yes, you're right. Content-wise? Way off the mark.

actually, if you play on the right servers, you can have up to and as many as 50 players on one server at once or even more, though i have yet to see any server have more than 75 on at a time.
theres a huge amount of hard working people that make content for the game, and loads of specialy run servers.
befor coming to GW, i was a NwN fanatic ^^ it was my only other game.
oh, winterclaw, i hear that if you did something for aribeth, something to do with that ceremony to make her an anti-paladin, you could save her or sometheing
yeah, i think both aribeth and us gamers that played females got a bum deal...i mean pah! i wouldnt touch that guy to scratch him, and yet here he is, as the ladies *love interest* lol...im not THAT desperate, dearie....

Yeah, you can "save" Aribeth so at least you don't have to end up killing her. And there are lots of Persistant Worlds that players made that host lots of players at once, usually stretched between a few servers.

I play in several campaigns, one of which we are developing into a persistent world. It's at http://worldofrain.net
If you still like to play NWN occasionally, check it out. The head guy's got a lot of neat custom scripts, races, etc. that he's put in. Might be worth a look for those odd times when you're bored with GW.

The best I could do with aribeth is not kill her in the end, but that takes a little work I think. She still goes to prison and may be executed afterwards (it's left up in the air).

You'd prefer that female PCs could fall in love with Aribeth? :P

NWN is still a good game, I played it for a few years before it finally lost my interest to another MMO. I've heard its gone downhill, compared to what it was when it first came out, but still a good, active game... well, more of a social than a game, IMO.
When NWN2 comes out, I imagine it'll be a huge, great game.

It's older, but it still holds it's weight so to speak. There are not many games that hold as much re~play value as that one does.

NWN is an old game, but still has lots to attract people with ... I'm still playing every now and then on an awesome RP server that is nearly full every night (over 60 people online).

There is something about NWN that keeps pulling me back.
I feel that there is much more skill involved building a character on NWN, thus you get mature people who are interested in creating server based on RP rather than coming onto forums and whining about other people and why certain things aren’t how they want.
GW WoW and EQ2 feel like the FPS of the RPG world, good for a while but get repetitive. Don’t get me wrong I have enjoyed them all. NWN is the only one that has had a long lasting effect on me.
I just hope NWN2 is a smash hit.

The server I'm helping develop will be going into open beta within the next few weeks. When it does, I'll post it and hope that some of you will come over and help us break things and bug tweak.
It is going to be a low-magic, high RP server.
Go to our forums at http://worldofrain.net/v-web/bulletin/bb/index.php and browse through some of the subforums with information about what the world is and how it will be run.
I know that I, for one, would appreciate help breaki....I mean bug testing....our server.

OH and on a side note: It looks like the story side of NWN1 coding will be able to be moved to NWN2 which is VERY nice for persistent worlds and for mod builders. They won't have to completely rewrite EVERYTHING to take existing worlds/mods into NWN2.

I was considering buying the platinum edition, but had been holding off because some of the reviews I read said it was extreemly linear. I don't mind having a story to follow, but like some freedom as well.
Mind you, I'm not judging it, just wanting your feedback. I love D&D type games!

It is very linear out of the box, Darkest. What makes NWN great, IMHO, is that there are literally THOUSANDS of modules out there. Bioware did themselves a huge service by releasing a toolset with the game. It allowed casual players and wannabe game designers to build and dream and expand the game in millions of different directions!
As others have said, there are online RPG worlds with completely non-linear stories that run as the characters inhabiting the world run.
There are single player modules that follow the Forgotten Realms, that expand on the original story, modules that are simply creations of some game designer's! There are a ton of great things out there.
You should go visit: http://www.nwvault.com and take a look at some of the top rated mods that have been made and the kinds of things that have been said about them.
Yes, the original campaign is rather linear but there are choices to be made that effect the end-game. Also, the platinum edition has the two expansions with it and they will extend the game play for hours. Add to that mods, persistent worlds and your own try at mod creation and you are getting HUNDREDS of hours of entertainment for $39.99.
