I'm playing a female ranger because after logging some 200 hours on my male ranger, some different styles of armor can be a breath of fresh air for leveling from 1-20 again

Well, I have 4 male characters. But I would assume some guy would use female characters either for roleplaying purposes or because looking at a female character is easier on the eyes
It's also a strategy for making money. Yesterday (in two separate zones of lion's arch at around the exact same time), there was a female elementalist and ranger dancing in the cage behind the rune trader for donations (LOL).
Also, perhaps people treat the female avatars better (as they assume that women would be playing them).
I honestly don't find it that strange...

Who cares? People ROLEPLAY! Weren't you the one bemoaning the fact that GW isn't a role playing game? Role playing means putting yourself in another circumstance. I mean, really? Are you a godly elementalist magician that rains down fire on otherworldly monsters?
That's what ROLEPLAY is and if someone wants to play a female, who is to say what it means? Perhaps they are exploring another side of the universe. Perhaps the females just look better. Who knows and, more importantly, WHO CARES?
That you are so preternaturally obsessed with this topic is...odd.
As for female avatars, read above.

/shrug female armor usually looks better to me, and they are alot easier on the eyes. I'm uncomfortable staring at a male characters butt all the time, since that's where the camera is centered. It's not so much a representation of me as it is somthing im going to be staring at for the next 20 levels or more.

LOL! Not flaming you, just wondered why the interest.
In this game and in other "action RPGs" it is common for males to play female avatars as the "action" isn't different, just the look is.
In true RPGs, it is also common for males to play female characters. *shrugs* It's just a different perspective on things, I guess.
I'm a female gamer and I have never RPd a male character but I have used a male avatar in Diablo and Diablo 2. I haven't yet in GW as I don't like their looks much.

I just like the look of the female warrior over the male...period. It means nothing. You are reading into it for no reason neoteo. Just let it go.

Neoteo, it's just a game. Some people make a necromancer with a green mohawk when they really don't have a mohawk. Some people just play the game and don't give a hoot if they're picking a girl or a boy.

I don't play characters of the opposite sex simply because it's easier to play when people aren't asking you to take your armor off, but honestly, if it weren't for that I problably would play some female characters simply because most faces/hair styles/armor for males is UGLY. Have you seen the male elementalists?! The only one that doesn't look like he's pissed off at something looks like someone who'd give out poisoned lollipops to children, and all their hair is ugly! Female characters have many more, and more often than not, better looking (or at least normal looking) character creation options, that's why people play them.
I managed to find some good looking models for the male necro and ranger, but other than that...not so much.

Well, it's not like you had a choice, right?
I've been playing online games for 6.. 7.. years now, or so? I've always picked up a female character when I could .. whether it is Unreal Tournament, Tribes or Baldur's Gate, I'm always trying to be who I am. Me.

Exactly, Mariena on the Diablo/D2 thing. I have to say that I do have a barbarian that's a male. Other than that, I only played the female characters.
UT, NWN, GW: All females. I -prefer- to play what I am (female LOL!) but, if the option's not available for a game, I get in touch with my male side.

ive been a pen and paper role player for a loooooong time now, in the neighborhood of 20 years (line up to /point and /laugh at the old guy ). it is second nature for me to create a "persona" when i create a new character. it may not be fully developed, and i may not ahve a complete character history in mind when i do so... but the look of the character must "feel" right for the persona forming in my mind when i make the character. many times, that persona, and feel, are female. if you really find the concept of people playing opposite sex avatars disturbing, i think the problem lies in your own self confidence and security... if youre just trying to understand, it probably wont work with just text.

Neo you really are taking this too seriously
I play a female Ranger and a Female Warior. I dont want to be a girl in real life, i dont like men, and im not attracted to avatars. It is actually because of two things, my sister likes designing characters so i let her design my characters and the male avatars for pretty much everything is ugly. The warrior is alright if you cover him in huge armor, but my warrior is also a mesmer so i wanted gladiator armor and in my opinion male gladiator armor should be changed BIG TIME. The ranger is more because my sister thought the male ranger faces were bad. In addition i get a huge kick out of geeks telling me im hot, its freekin' hilarious.

Well, I have a male monk. I like the way the male looks better than female. I also have a female warrior. I'm sorry but I can't stand the way the male looks. I'm just so big that I feel slow when I run. Yes. I felt like I was running slowly because of my size. I felt stupid. <_> Big burly dudes = scary.

Its a interesting point though... I have no problem rp'ing a male or female character on a forum rp (I'm female) but, suprisingly found I have a female character for gw... The choice, I guess, was subconscious, and more than likely due to the fact that the female looked better than the male.
And while I'm attempting finding a male char.. I keep sticking with females for the look

I am, of course, a guy. I have 2 Female and 2 Male characters (No I don't want to breed them, but I have to admit that would be pretty funny). The male characters are the ones that look better as a male design. Same with the females.
I made my male ranger look EXACTLY like Orlando Bloom, but I'm not Orlando Bloom. I don't even like Orlando Bloom. Why make it look like Orlando Bloom then? Because I can. If I can make a character look like someone I know, I think it is cool. So I do it.
My female characters are my Mesmer (best looking character in the game IMO) and whatever pvp character I make.
My males are ranger and monk.

In online games, my main PC's (or the first main I have) will be male but after that I'll make female PCs usually because I like looking at a female character more. If you ask me in game I'll tell the truth about my PC's gender.
At my last check in GW, I played for about 170-190 hours, with 120 of them with my male main and the other 50 or so hours divided amoungst 3 female PCs.

The only time that I'm disturbed about guys playing female characters is when I see things like the underwear dance parties..... or when the 'conversation' consists of
"omg ur hot!!1"
/removes clothes
"look at my nawks "
/dance
"yeah baby!"
Diablo / D2 - There was a female option unless I'm mixing up games - I played a Sorc upto max level. and when LoD came out I tried an asassin.
