Meeting someone on the net is no different than meeting them at the front door, or calling them on the phone. (except there's more of a possibility that they'll meet you at a cafe...as a 48 year old balding man named Ted "Jesus Christ" who'll introduce himself with "Hi, honey, I'm DJAlternative35")
And then you run and scream for help if he tries to grab or follow you.
But no, I do know of a lot of people who've met online in games. A couple I knew on some forums a few years ago met there, and are now having their first child.
The only problem is I've heard a lot more stories of the 40 yr old internet teen getting arrested by the two 30 yr old cops playing the 14 yr old internet teen named "s0cc3rchik123".
You get my drift.

i personally feel that if you have feeling online for someone you've never met, you must be very sheltered and/or have no/or a wierd social life. this is all OPINION. If i want to go meet some girls i usually go to a club or to someones parties and talk to the ladies. i have made many friends on the online community but i just don't feel the internet is a place for relationships to start; although many of them have.

Well, friends are relationships too. Why are you making friends with people you've never met?

Personally, I feel that people who have trouble accepting online relationships do so because they're not very intelligent, and therefore have trouble comprehending anything outside their own personal experience, but this is all opinion.

lol forgot about this thread.
only other thing i have to say is this:
right now, most people think of meeting someone and they immediately think of a pub or club being the 'ideal' place; lots of girls/guys there and the drink makes you more relaxed. Well ok, but the only difference is in a bar you can see that the person pretending to be nice is a girl/guy. It's just as easy to get someone drunk, take them home and then run off with their money or worse. Online you might be getting a guy when you think its a girl, but at least you can make them talk to you for ages before risking meeting them (as long as you take backup when meeting them of course!) so really there is very little difference, except for the fact that most people find it weird.
Not that its weird to ring up a dating service and go on a blind date that they set up. No difference if you ask me. I think the problem is that with the Internet being relatively 'new', stories of "my 12 year old girl was attacked by a 40 year old internet perv" are more interesting to the public than "my 12 year old girl was walking down the street when a 40 year old attacked her" coz thats been going on for years. We know it'll happen so its kinda forgotten about almost. Whereas we all know that the only thing on the internet is 'filth' or so we're told by those that rarely/never use the internet.

I'm a firm believer in the "To each his own" rule. I probably wouldn't do it myself, but if it works for anyone else then thats awesome for them, I wish them well.
What I don't understand is why it matters to anyone else.

It happens, but most don't work out. The "from behind the computer" hides stuff or doesn't fully show everything. If your serious start out with a date in RL and see if goes anywhere. Use GW as an introduction. There are a lot of factor's where things break down. Avoid the "virutal" in game stuff.
True relationship happened when the lust stage moves to love. That being said it's proven that teenagers can actually fall in and out of love (at least when it comes to the brain activty of love).

Relationships happen everywhere, and most don't work out. The things that lead to success over the Internet are the same things that lead to success in a bar or social group... honesty in communication, commonality, and chemistry.

Cynical viewpoint. Relationships are to damn much work and waste your valuable spare time. Just for info, I;m 41 been married 14 years and have 3 kids, the last 10 years have been nothing but a disaster. I was better off alone, when my emtional side was shut down and every was based on logic.

Totally agree with that.
Relationships are worthless, and actually waste money (presents, dinner, wedding, kids, divorce, child support, the list goes on). I could spend that money on something more rational, tangible, and easier to maintain.

I agree with everything you have said. It really doesn't matter where you meet people.
I don't see much of a difference between having friends online, and dating online anymore...
My best friend I have had for about 5/6 years now, I met online. We talk online every single day, we talk on the phone, we send each other presents on holidays or just mail random things, but we still haven't met in person. I know we will someday, and we plan on taking some college classes together later, even possibly be roommates for a time. She's the best friend I've ever had, and it doesn't matter to me at all that I met her online.
A friend of mine met his fiance online. They've met and stayed at each others places and whatnot. He told me that meeting her in person was like just meeting up with an old friend, they connected right away. They're moving in together soon, and getting married in Feb. I believe.
Years ago I used to be ignorant and think the whole online dating thing was a joke. My friends online all did it at some point, I didn't really understand.. I didn't put them down or anything, I just thought they were doing it for kicks. This was until it happened to me. I didn't plan on having an online relationship, I didn't want one really at all. I avoided it for as long as I could, but sometimes there's just that connection you have with someone you can't ignore. I "dated" this guy for a few months, until he started to weird-out. I felt lied to, then later found out he probably lied to me on everything about himself. I won't get into the details. But, I think it only really works online if you don't lie to each other and make up crap. Like any relationship, it's based on truth & trust... without that, it wont last very long.
