Default Poor killion got owned.

Mehhhh,

My story:

I was like: YEA! PAYDAY!

So I gotto the local retailer and bought myself a Aopen 6600GT, I'm thinking: Wow, GW at 1280x1024 (My LCD doesnt support higher) with all details set to max.
So now, I'm back home, opened up my rig and threw the old Ati 9500 straight from the case into the garbage bin and hooked up my awesome nVidia 6600 GT.

Afcourse, I'm eager to play games with this awesome card, after installign all the lame updates and crap I boot up GW. Set the options to max and here I go!

Now:

Not 20 seconds after entering the game: my entire computer locks up. Had to turn it off by hand. Resulting my Powersupply not being able to handle the Intel Prescott, 3.2 and a nVidia 6600 GT.

NOW I have to go back to the retailer to buy another Power Supply for 40 bucks.

Always should check power requirements if a new PC component requires seperate power.

Would you rather have to get a new power supply or have had your new shiny card fry on startup? lol

I feel your pain though, installing new power supplies are a PITA.

hey, even us IT and built-it peeps have off days

like, when you are trying to fix a vid driver prob with the works testing machine
(its the one that tests the printers and makes replacement driver cds for the dopes that bring in their printers and say, "its not printing, can you fix it?" and they just forgot to change the cartriges sheesh)
we had tested a ATI vid card on the syste a month or so befor, and since the machine was on board vid, it had started whineing. so i took out the old driver and lost most of the screen res and colors >.<
tried a few 2nd had cards i keep in the back for testing and couldnt get a sinle one to power up. i thiough, aw hell, im gona have to wipe her
then i looked again, and noticed...i hadnt been inserting the totaly *slaps forhead and goes Doh!*
after that, i slapped in a geforce 2 64 meg and took out *all* the drivers and loaded in the proper ones an it was fine

so, take heart.....to err is human, to feck it up totally requires a IT person :P
and to error:7? meh, only the Sever Gods know that one

(is there a way to add a few more smiles hits, i keep having to take smiles out cause it says there are too many *unhapy smile* and i like to use smiles, it shows im not being sarcastic or mean to people)

A decent power supply is always better than crappy OEM ones unless it's a good OEM like Sony. I've had a few el-cheapo PSUs pop and one fried up and smoked the whole room up Get a good PSU

I'm getting a Coolermaster ATX 380 Watts.
Should be sufficient to cope with my Prescott and nVidia.

I am envious. Wish I could afford that.

How much did it cost you anyways?

My little Radeon 9600 ran me $100 and it's running well but struggles at some of the higher up games. Though it did run Doom3 and HL2 with no problems.. (on high settings mind you)

Wonder if I should even bother upgrading.
