For a RPG (Still confused why they give it a title when the stories -FFIthroughX2- are all linear.) I like the FinalFanytasy Series..
FFIX Every one loves FFVII it seems.. so do I but I think that's everyone's Favorite. It's my fav too but my real fav is IX.
Oh Yeah Chrono Trigger is still up there.. I loved that game.
MMORPGs - Stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role Play Game (I think it should) for Quan Zong and RPG is well.. obvious. I don't think there's any other terms.. I heard someone said CCORPG -.o; no Idea what that stands for.
For the online games I've only played Ragnarok Online WoW and now GW. Out of those three I must say GW and WoW are on the same level to me.. I want to play both actually.

Let's see:
Online:
- Guildwars (well, yeah obviously, otherwise I wouldn't waste my time on this board)
-WoW (yeaaahh, I know.. I don't play it, but a lot of my colleagues do and you got to hand it to Blizzard, those folks know how to design their games)
Offline (japanese):
Final Fantasy VII (Aaaeeeeriiis!! One of the most emotional moments in gaming history)
Offline (western):
Gothic I & II (the most lively world I've ever encountered in any game)
Planescape:Torment (wow, I mean just wow. a shame it sucked at retail and Guido Henkel stopped making games...)
Baldur's Gate II (one of the great classics of pc gaming history)
Retro:
Ultima VI - The False Prophet (before Richard Garriot started to suck he actually made some great games, some say that Ultima VII was the best of the series, but for me part 6 will allways have a special place in my heart - I still get goosebumps when I think about the intro)
Y's (on the Sega Master System - I didn't even understand english when I played that one which added a lot of difficulties.. still a great game)
Dragon Wars (played it on the C64 but couldn't complete it due to a faulty disk. played it again years later on the pc and beat it like a gazillion times.. great story, inovative character system and some really nice gameplay elements..)
Wasteland (ten years before Fallout, this game set the standard for post nuclear rpgs, great combat and chracter system, a lot of whicked humor and you get to battle robots amidst the ruins of Las Vegas, how cool is that?)
Betrayal at Krondor (10 Polygons on the screens at the same time, digitalized characters, a great soundtrack and a plot by Raymond E Feist. What more could you ask for?)
Ultima Underworld (You didn't play UW? stop talking to me this minute! The prototype of the modern crpg)
What I didn't like (but everyboy else did):
Kotor (I don't know if it was the Star Wars universe, the lame plot, the two dimensional npcs or the predictable quests, i just couldn't get warm with this one..)
Fable (great potential, brilliant ideas, great gameplay but ultimately flawed. or to sum it up: a game by Peter Molyneux)
RPGs that I'm looking forward to:
Gothic III
TES4:Oblivion
Dragon Age
Spellforce 2 (3rd person fantasy RPG meets RTS. Beautiful graphics, great background plus I'm one of the developers, so it obviously has to be great ;o)

I actually liked those two games.
Kotor was pretty good to me. Fable was alright, they could've done much much more..

Well, Kotor was a sound game and above all very balanced (but for a little detail: Jedi are infinitely more powerfull than everybody else in the game..) . As a designer I admire the way Bioware pulled the game of. Gameplay-wise it had very few flaws, the interface was (with a few exceptions) very intuiive and thought out. But it was not rough enough around the edges for me. It basically was the same on every planet and with every party member. Go to a new planet, solve some quests, fight he boss, nect planet. Every party mamber had a side quest, which usually involved getting to the next planet, so they would tell you a bit more. Also it was pretty pointless to have anything but a pure Jedi party running around. They were superior to all other characters in all aspects. Also I don't really like Star Wars, so that may have been a factor too...
Fable, well like every other game made by Peter Molyneux I really wanted to like it. The main problem was, that it was hyped for years and a lot of things were promised, but never really made it into the game. All in all it was a very decent game and I had fun for 10 hours (the time it took me to finish the storyline) and then I had fun for another 5 or 6 hours with my othert character. Fable's main problem was content, there just wasn't enough of it. Not enough to explore, not enough quests, not enough story, not enough everything.. Hell, maybe I'll give the PC version a try when it hits the shelves as it is supposed to have exactly that: more content. Maybe for once good ole' Pete won't dissapoint me..

Jeez..you must all be so young.
The best: (The orginial) Bard's Tale. It's what made RPG's what they are today.

The the problem with RPGs... They're games with an end they're really not RP.
Something that's been longer around than any MMORPG are MUDs.
A MUD (Multiple User Dimension, Multiple User Dungeon, or Multiple User Dialogue) is a computer program which users can log into and explore. Each user takes control of a computerized persona/avatar/incarnation/ character. You can walk around, chat with other characters, explore dangerous monster-infested areas, solve puzzles, and even create your very own rooms, descriptions and items.
And it's all in Text descriptions. You make your own quest, meet other people and all the while you're actually RPing the character you made not just OOC (Out Of Character)
When I think about it The Sims (The original games Sim City up to the now) are more of a RP game than anything. Sure not a fantasy one (which would be better if done right) but never the less it is kind of like a RPG. XD

FFVIII is my all-time favorite single-player RPG with FFVII in a close second. GuildWars is looking to be my favorite online multiplayer now; DII:LoD has nothing on this. I can readily say, "Bye, bye, Mephisto runs."

Not many here like Everquest because they don't understand the immersion behind it, and the effort needed to accomplish anything. Not to mention the fact that Everquest requires people to understand and cooperate with eachother. This little necessity blocks out most people from Blizzard games that want everything now and for themselves.
I've played EQ for about 5 years. Best RPG, hands down, because the people who play it understand that cooperation between others is how you progress in the game, and not who pretends to have the biggest balls.
However, right now I'm waiting for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes to come out next year. It appears to be very promising, and is potentially my favorite rpg out there!

I got pretty much hooked playing EQ 2, the groups were awesome, and damn, but when they said quest, they meant it. the immersiveness was amazing. i would like to have continued playing but i lost my job
So for me GW is the choice of the moment, love the gfx and the female avatars are hawt!
Eve-online, very, very cool game, space sim more than RPG, but very detailed. Awesome game, still play it now and again.
L2 was alright except for pk'ing, i "touched" on that in another thread
Morrowind, Daggerfall, Diablo 1/2, meh, i'll keep remembering as i go along
played too many to remember will prolly come back repeatedly and edit them in
Lol, just remembered my friends all used to hate me in EQ2 cos i was a ninja looter, used to loot the bodies before they hit the ground lol, the looting options were soon changed to lotto very very quickly. was the source of great laughs
