I dont know how you alcoholics do it..
I'm not sure if im just overy sensitive to the taste of alcohol or what, But i have no idea how someone could repeatively drink such a horrible tasteing drink. Whenever i get drunk for the next few days the smell of it or even the sight of it makes my physically sick. Espesially the rums and vodka, im getting queesy just thinking about it now. How can you be addicted to something that makes you so horribly sick?
I never had an alchol addiciton problem, I can drink whenever i want and just stop for long periods of time without feeling a thing.
Anyone have any thoughts/ stories?

Stop drinking liquor. I have never gotten sick from beer (or wine). Once you develop a taste for *good* beer, drinking is a much more pleasurable experience.
No frilly-panty drinks for me.

See that's why you have mixers.. lollie-water.. that type of stuff
Personally, I'll fall asleep if I'm drinking more than a glass of wine and can't stand the taste of beer unless it's used for cooking
But spirits.. are wonderful, either straight out of the freezer (the colder the better) or mixed with stuff.
... then again... I don't get drunk too often, something about being a responsible parent and not liking the hang-over part which follows.

A few "easy to find" beers you should try that spring to mind:
- Boddington's Pub Ale - a rather remarkable ale unlike any other I have had... think "light smooth guiness"
- Shiner Bock - nice mid-color American-style bock
- Blue Moon - a nice white ale thats pretty easy to find
- Hefewizen - this is more a "type" than a brand... generally refers to wheat-based beers
- Bass or Newcastle Brown - both smooth english ales that everyone loves (unless you are a terrorist, of course)
- Yuengling - I personally don't care for it, but its extremely popular from the mid-east northwards
A good rule of thumb is to avoid American "macro-brews"... i.e. big company beer (Anheuser-Busch, Coors, Miller, etc.). There are a few exceptions, of course, but thats the general consensus.
And for the love of god, just about anything they serve at a frat party is carbonated urine and should not be confused with beer (Natural Light, Mil. Best, Bud Light, anything sold in a 40oz bottle, etc.). That stuff is strictly for homeless people, rednecks, and making beer-burgers.

I can't stand beer. I've tried dozens of different beer, and it doesn't do it for me.
Whiskey, Rum, Spiced Rum, Fireball, all make me sick.
Vodka.. Hah, I love Vodka. I can handle a 26er of that to myself. I usually don't mix it much, either. I hold a drink of sprite in my mouth, down half the bottle of vodka, and chase it. I get hammered pretty fast. Never passed out, though.

Alcohol is for suckers.
Soda is where it's at. Especially Jones, any kind of soda I can drink. I would never drink anything that could make me look like a total jackass if I had enough, or even make me feel like shit the next morning. For the taste, there are a lot of other things that taste good with no side effects.

Cmon! bear aint bad, I started drinking coronas when i was about 13, at first i didnt really like it, but than it got pretty good as my taste buds started dieing (they do that because they start getting bigger as your older and then alot of taste buds die because they have no space.) And I only drank at like, family reuniions and stuff or parties, never alone. And pretty much like that now, except I like it more. I can see how Alcoholics drink it too much, I guess i can understand why, its probebly not the taste but the fact that it looses you down a bit.

i over did it on bourbon and vodka, and i can't stand the taste of them either. the mere smell of either makes me feel sick, lol i even start smelling it in things thay shouldn't have vodka in them. chocolate or caramel liqueur i cant stand the taste of either, drank a bottle of each in one sitting (wasnt fun). havent really tried beer or wine, but the mixer drinks are alright, still can smell the alcohol tho
strangely enough i have yet to suffer from a hang-over.

you cannot be more wrong about that, i do drink beer (not your regular pint, but stronger specialities), whiskey, rum, ... for the taste. Hell, i dislike alcohol beverages where you hardly taste the alcohol (breezers and stuff, the so called alco-pops). only kiddies drink alcohol for the sole purpose of getting drunk

I know how you feel about hating alcohol, i never truelly like it. I get quessy after i get wasted when ever i see alcohol for like 2 weeks (mainly because i have really horrible stomach). But i never drink alcohol for the taste, and when ever i do drink i have a buffer to wash away the taste.

To the OP, you will get used to the feeling more if you drink regurally. What happens, is if you get sick after you drink you develop strong taste aversion conditioning. Basically you will be conditioned to get sick at even the thought of alcohol, its the bodies way of staying alive (body marks alcohol as a health threat, it is a toxin btw).
If you drink more, and become familiar with the good affects of alcohol it will all the sudden start to taste better.

Although it's been a while, I used to homebrew beer. Now THAT was something I drank for pure taste. Beer made right, all natural and undiluted... man, put the Budweiser back in the horse it came from.
When your beer tastes great at room temperature, you know you did it right.
