PSP, if only because of the better game choice.

PSP. Why? Because the system appeals to me. I don't care about some of these biased opinions when people say "I think the DS will be able to do more." They both have equal potential. The PSP brings power to the user, and the DS brings playability and some very intriguing online games. It's the features of the PSP alone that make it worth the money. The screen is absolutely beautiful as well. I would get both if I had the money, but it's not likely I'll get either of them for a long time.
Oh and in consideration to games, the DS has been taking a long time, but they seem to have a group of solid titles coming up. The PSP has just launched, so it may be a little bit before we see some really good games from it, but the launch titles are a lot better than what the DS had.

nintendo screwed up horribly by making it only playable with a stylus for a few reasons. 1. stylus will eventually scratch the screen(have you seen the displays at wal-mart??) 2. most of the games suck ass and hard to control because of the sloppy control system, a TS is cool and all but there shoulda been another control system in place if you didnt want to use the TS aspect, it alienated alot of people who dont have great hand-eye coordination, plus the fact thyat if i touch screen on the say fire button for metroid prime hunters it dosent always fire, sometimes it will be off my a cm or 2, but thats a big difference.
PSP would be my choice for games because theyre some great looking ones comming out for it, and i would only buy one movie for it more than likely which is FF7: Advent Children, maybe if they reduced the price from around 20$ to 10$ but for now ill stick to buying dvd's at wholesale or just d/l'ing my movies

Here's a simple reason why PSP is better than DS.
It's a comparison of a game called Ridge Racer on DS (Left) and PSP (right).

I think the PSP is better if you don't worry about the price. The graphics are so nifty!

I don't get it - to you play a game for graphics or for gameplay?
I must be missing something.

I do play for gameplay.
However I posted this to show a comparison of graphics on DS and PSP. After all, the game is the same. You wouldn't buy a game with outdated graphics if you can buy the same game with better visuals?
You might tell me that the fact you can control the car with the DS stylus (by moving the steering wheel) improves the gameplay. However I have played on Palm and believe me, stylus-controls aren't the best arround.
I see people are praising Nintendo for funner, more original games. This is the same idea for the Xbox vs. GameCube vs. PS2 argument. I am a proud owner of an Xbox because I chose immersion over fun (and I can't stand the PS2 controler).
Yes, gameplay is much more important than graphics, however bad visuals sometimes distract from the game.

My bro bought a psp, I think its expensive but when I played it I could see why. I was impressed with the graphics and would come handy to me since I travel alot. Besides the price, its a great little system

Both graphics and gameplay need to be SUPERB for me. (check, check for Guild Wars ) If I have a game with solid gameplay but terrible graphics I'm not going to like it. If I have a game with awesome graphics but terrible gameplay I'm not going to like it.
That's mainly the reason I love playing games on XBox, Gamecube, and PS2; each one has their own bunches of outstanding games and the graphics are great for all of them. (Fav. to play from each system: Halo(2), Super Smash Bros., and Madden NFL football 200(X))
Though I know you may despise the PS2 controller Death at the Door I must play all my sports games on the PS2 because of the R1 R2 R3 and L1 L2 L3 buttons that other controllers simply don't have. For sports games it's a must to have maximum player control at all times so the PS2 is the clear way to go for me.
Back to the whole DS vs. PSP thing : While the DS has inarguably some outstanding games I for whatever reason cannot STAND those bloody N64 graphics. The PSP delivers the graphics I would need for a handheld and also the appropriate features for the types of games I play.

DS has some outstanding games??? Well please fill me in, I thought the weaknesses of the DS were its lackluster titles and poor use of the dual screen. In most games, it functions as a pointless, oversized mini map.

Well I was just referring to the old classics like Super Mario, Mario Kart, and others brought into the DS world. The jury is still out on all the original titles...

The faithful patrons of the Guild Wars Guru community have spoken!
The PSP defeats the DS with an overwhelming 2:1 vote ratio.
Thanks to all who either voted or contributed to this superb discussion.

Take Metal Gear Acid for example; the gameplay for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is simply amazing. And then we have Acid. It's.....turn based? They can label it as a shift to a new era of Metal Gear, but it's blatently obvious that they faced limiations in what they could do and had to settle for a second-rate game, uncommon for a franchise as famous as Metal Gear.

I have to disagree there. I bought a PSP last Sunday (here in Spain launched 9/1/05 so...) with Medievil and Ridge Racers. The graphics in Ridge Racers have the same effects and colors (or more in some circuits as they are from PSX versions). Yes, the resolution is not the same, and the console lacks any of the flavors current PC GPUs offer (like AntiAliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, etc). They look jaggy (dont know if thats spelled right sorry) but they are impressive. That made me buy the first portable.
As for the Metal Gear Acid, I dont really know what it is, and I haven't played it yet. But seeing how soon it launched (in all other consoles the first Metal Gear launched well after, sometimes years) maybe they wanted a killer-app to sell more PSPs at launch, so they made a "simpler" version of the game. Seeing Ridge Racers I'm pretty sure they can manage to make a full version of Metal Gear on PSP.
Also, you watched the Gran Turismo 4 Mobile screens? Pretty amazing I must say.
And sorry if I revived this thread but we poor Europeans always get things too late (at least in the console world).

I own both.
New PSP: $250
PSP loaded: $400+
Used DS loaded: $50
Woo hoo!
Well, having both, I can tell you that personally I LOVE the DS. It totally surpassed my expectations. Pictochatting with myself is so addicting. And although I only have Tiger Woods PGA tour for it (crappy game), there will be GREEAT DS Games out. Naruto, Shonen Jump Allstars, Advance Wars DS...oh yeah...and touching is good.
But PSP IMO is better of the two. Better graphics, smaller, music, picture, video. And nobody looks at you like a kid, when you hold a PSP. More sophisticated system, and GTA and Madden 06 are comming out! Yay!
