The person next to me stinks
So I'm back at work, in my cubicle *agh* and the chick next to me smells like a bad combination of tuna, cat poop, and onions. WTF DO I DO?!? Someone save me... or give me a hug

LOL! Oh man... I feel your pain. There's this guy who works at the same school as me. Nicest guy in the world, I really do like him... but I can't stand to be near him because he smells like a backed up toilet. And I can't exactly avoid him because we work together. Of course it doesn't help that the school constantly smells like sweaty kids who don't use deoderant...
Try getting one of those little air fresheners, I like vanilla.

Oh dear poor girl, you and her. I suppose the only thing you can do is sit through it. Does this girl sit next to you every day?

Have you tried kindly telling her in a tactful way?
Some people are used to some smells and don't really notice them.
I used to handle LOT of dogs everyday, and one day, someone said I stank.
Why one day and not the others? Dunno.
I guess it was because it was in the winter, and I had left my jacket in a room full of dogs, and the pet smells settled into it.
Anyway, the end result was that if when I couldn't wash my jacket immediately after handling the animals, I'd spray it thoroughly with Febreeze to remove the odor. Never got another complaint.
After being around 20 dogs at a time regularly, I stopped noticing dog smells altogether!
Similarly, someone that works around foods will often become desensitized to them. They might smell like nuts, pizza, greasy burgers and fries, and not even realize it.
Just point it out, and they should ideally shrug it off as an occupational hazard and handle it as best as possible. Nobody I know of WANTS to smell rank and repulse other people. o_O

Nah that might offend. I mean for example I'm fully aware that I have bead breath and that I stink when I sweat, but both are health probs and annoy the hell out of me and there's not much I can do about them either. The bad breath is the most embarrasing though. I don't think the ladies like it. To have someone tell me about these odour issues is just rubbing salt in the wound.

Yeah, I have to sit next to her every day. Two things came to mind:
(1) A can of Lysol discreetly sprayed over to her cubicle,
(2) Induced Vomitting over the cubicle.
Eesh.

Just take something with you to work, to make your cubicle smell good. Hopefully the smelliness is just a one off.

There is one other reason people may have body odor; communal living. Way back when at my first job we had this employee who lived in a communal home, the whole group were vegetarians and didn't believe in bathing. In his case it became a matter of his wanting to continue working or no whether he cleaned up, needless to say the paycheck was more important than following some communal rule. I realize this isn't exactly a common occurance, but it is another reason.

Well for breakfast you could eat a can of beans. Then by mid-day you can Rip Off some nice juicy ones. If she looks at you funny or says anything, just say I am trying to cover up the stink that is already here.

Well sunshine... I say invest 4.88 in those really good smelling candles at Wal~Mart.... Because there truly is not a tactful way to handle the situation.... So she smells like bad date gone horridly wrong I am so sorry.... Being the big softie I am I would buy the candle and while I was there I would make her an anonymous gift bag full of soaps, shampoos...detergents Etc.... The saddest thing is that there are truly people out there who may have not had the time and care put into in their raising as others, or life got really tough. There was a group of five siblings at my school some 15(man I feel old) years ago...rode my bus...talk about a smell. Turned out after years of ridicule our bus changed routes and had to go directly to their home... Turned out they all lived in a tent because their mom couldn't afford to house, clothe and feed them.... So the reasons could be MANY as to her hygenic aspects...... So this being said.... CANDLES ARE AWESOME. (*I think I have had to much caffeine, sorry if this made no sense*)
~~Dame
P.S. Here's that hug you asked for good measure

I know your only attempting to be helpful, but this sort of generalisng about medical problems irratate me. My bad breath is due to the fact that I have chronic rhinitis or post nasal drip, basically hayfever all year round, but I'm alergic to dust and spores as well as pollen. This mean my body produces too much mucus. Thus I'm constantly bunged up. This build of muscus along with my gum problems gives me bad breath and no amount of cleaning my teeth, which I do an awful lot and chewing gum, which I also do fairly regulary will rememedy the situation. The fact that I have to put up with being blocked up all year annoys me enough. I don't have to have people following me around saying your breath stinks too.
Anyway back to the original post. Check whether the offending smell persists before you take action. And if you do take action try to be subtle and kind if you can.
