Did your parents screw you up?
I grew up as an only child raised by a single parent for most of my childhood. Here's a list of a few things that my mother did to screw me up as an adult.
1) I'm a bastard "literally"! My mother was married at the age of 21 to a man in the Navy. They lived on a Naval base on the island of Guam. He was away more than 6 months out of the year, and she was very lonely.
She met another young man on the Naval base and fell in lust with him, and here I am 35 years later to tell the story.
2) I'm a liar! Not that I want to be, but when I turned 13 years old my mother decided to tell me who my real father was. The man that she was married to believed that I was his real son up until he died last year. His entire family still believe that I am his child. I have 2 half brothers, grand parents, aunts, and uncles on his side of the family that I believed were my real blood relatives up until the age of 13. I've kept this lie my entire life, and I suppose I always will. I never leqally changed my name either.
3) I have serious trust and abandonment issues! My mother was married 5 times and had countless boyfriends in between marriages. Just when I got attached to one guy, she would move on to the next.
4) I hate my real father! I had to learn how to be a man and a father on my own. I've met my real father, and I have to admit that he is a nice guy. I got along with him fine up until about 4 years ago when my mother got married again to a man from Iran that is 5 years younger than me. The same year this happened, my real father called me up about 1 month after Fathers Day and he was upset that I didn't call him on Fathers Day. I haven't talked to him since. On many levels I'm pissed off at him for never being there for me, even though I know it's not entirely his fault. My mother is mostly to blame.
My final comments are that I'm not disrespecting my mother by telling my stories, she always loved me and took care of me growing up.
If you've found your way to the GWG and post all day and play Guild Wars all night, then it's possible your screwed up like I am!
Please share your stories with me.

Although I respect your willingness to tell your life story to a forum (not a good idea, as you know the kind of asshats that pounce on this stuff like flies on shit), I will only say that my mother was raped and here I am.

as much as I appreciate your situation I can't contribute to your thread. I refuse to blame other people for my shortcomings as a person.

Calling your remark offbase wouldn't be the right way to tell you to stop wasting space.

I'm on the highly functional autism spectrum, and that's where most of my problems stem from.
Autism today is still not as widely recognized as it should be, considering just how many people are discovered to be on the autistic spectrum towards the ends of their lives.
I didn't know until I was 18.
My parents never understood me really, and it wasn't the normal kind of teenage identity problems. It's hard to accept that someone else's mind might actually physically be wired to function differently. People are apt to blame you for things really beyond your control, and not attempt to get you help. Especially when you're scoring things in the 98th percentile. Then it's like, "You're smart, so there must not be anything wrong with you."
Bear in mind, autism itself isn't a 'curable' thing, nor is it always a disability.
Like a child unable to comprehend rhyming words, some of which never actually understand it by sound, but instead learn rules for them, you can relive the symptoms to the point where they don't even seem to exist.
I don't mind telling my story, as my story wouldn't exist if people were more aware of the autism spectrum. Heck, my father's probably autistic too. He got in trouble quite a bit in his youth, and got put into prison 2 times I think. Never did get a consistent diagnosis (none of which were autism), and now he's too old to care.

I have no problem blaming others if it truly is their fault. I can't blame "myself" for being a bastard child. LMAO.
Or maybe I could...........as a young sperm I was a really strong swimmer!

passing the root of your problems on to someone else is detrimental to your development as a person.

Trying to be witty and clever when in fact your an asshole doesn't lead to development of friends. Maybe your really lonely, one of those people who have to lash out and always have the last word.

It is but one of many reasons that I'm screwed up. Our life experiences define us as individuals. We all have good and bad memories.
So, are you trying to tell us that you've never blamed anyone for something bad that has happened to you?
Now you've peeked my curiosity. Please share with me a story about how you personally over came anger and resentment and how it changed your life.
I'm intelligent enough to know that there is power in forgiveness, but its easier said than done.

Ofcourse I've blamed people. I blamed rich people, people that lived in suburbs, people who had two story houses with white picket fences and a dog named tickles, I blamed society..the government..police..I blamed rival gangs and gangbangers...I blame relatives, friends...anyone I could because I didn't want to accept that whatever problems I had were my own and not someone elses. You don't overcome anger and resentment....you figure out how to live with it and not let it affect you. Anything bad that ever happened to me I brought on myself...it's nobody elses fault.

awww, don't blame tickles
I believe that you are a very rare case and are extremely fortunate to only have bad things happened to you because you brought them on yourself.
So nothing bad ever happens to you unless you say so?

nothing bad ever happened to me that I didn't deserve is a more accurate statement.

My parents did not, by any means screw me up. My parents are responsible for most of what I am today I'm sure. From the time I was born they always had a good bit of money (not rich, but a good bit, about average with 4 kids I'd guess), but even though they COULD have bought me absolutely anything I wanted, they never did. In fact unless it was a special holiday I never got a dime or gift at all, I got a couple things on christmas and that was about it. And I'm very thankful for it, I learned to live without things I don't really need, I was able to pull myself through school, and I'm really RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOin' awesome. My father was married once before he married my mother, but I never knew his previous wife. He grew up in a shitty ass family and turned his life into something great, from his attitude in his past I learned to say "screw everyone" as well, and here I am. Doing well. I got lucky when it came to family.
