It's not often I start threads but I have to share this

DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting! Both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine.. - Very high in trans fatty acids. Triple risk of coronary heart disease.

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold. Lowers quality of breast milk.

Decreases immune response. Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY
INTERESTING! Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it

Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

I honestly can't say I like butter, not that I dislike it. Just most of my life I used, or my parents used, margarine.

Butter's tastier anyway just run a little and stay in shape like me. I'll eat the most unhealthy food and force myself to run it off like half a pizza but I'll eat half a watermelon the next day though so balance is a good thing.

I hate people with good matabelims. I'll run for an hour or however long the CD lasts and they sit there and lose more weight than me.

Ew...I used to LOVE margarine. :/ I wonder how the spray butters fit in (I can't believe its not butter spray...no fat or so they say)...maybe I don't wanna know considering how often I use it :P

if you look at the price , butter is about 4 times more expencive ...

margerine is 100% vegetal

butter is 100% animal

i just use margerine for cooking , and butter for table. bread , or in plate as souce , for fish for exemple ...

We have been eating butter for years now. Much healthier for you then margarine or oleo. Nothing beats fresh bread out of the oven with butter!

I am a Pastry Ingriedient Distributor. Most of our products are Europeon imports. Chocolates,Flavorings,Glazes, etc. It would be a sin to make some fine pastry products using margarine.

Used to eat margerine but I try to eat butter now or olive oil based spreads. Margerine is brimming with hydrogenated fats. If any of you have ever fried chips in oil you will know that you get a horrible yellow residue on your pans, which is near impossible to clean. This is hydrogenated fat residue and this is what settles in your arteries when you eat sunflower oil/vegetable oil based products which are rich in these fats. It should be noted that this residue does not break down in your arteries, effectively reducing blood flow. It is for this reason that I avoid most margerines since they are ussually either sunflower or vegetable oil based.

Olive oil based spreads on the other hand do not contain hydrogenated fats. In fact olive oil is very good for you. I don't use sunflower or vegetable oil anymore.

So yeah its olive oil and butter all the way for me. However I haven't much cause to use butter anymore, since I can't eat bread or anything wheat or gluten based. This has been quite annoying since I'm a big fan of food and thus not having the option to eat something is well .... frustating!

Butter has a traditional feel to it. Nothing beats butter, although I must say I used to hate the stuff as a child.

there are lots of ingredients in food you dont know about, such as mcdonalds chicken nugget, notice how they advertise "all white meat" now? well they used to use meat filler, which is animal scraps that meat companies cant sell, and other items, such as earthworms

also, do you ever eat at restuarants? i have worked at several, and i wouldnt advise it, not only do some people have deranged senses of humor sometimes, but they also make you use food that you know you shouldnt, many times i have been forced to use moldy or rotten food, also food that has been dropped or has bugs, or other miscellanious things in it.
