I dont quite get what you mean. Do one even overrate self-esteem to be a requirement to be alive? Where did that idea come from?
I thought self-esteem is just... self-esteem o.O Or rather, the way you see yourself... doesn't really matter how you live.
Oh yea, one more thing... if you have little or no self-esteem... you wouldn't even be posting on a forum, because you would be in fear of someone poking at you for what you say no matter what you were going to say.

Germany's score on this actually surprises me. I had heard really bad things about the national self-esteem over there. I think I posted this before, but, from what I have been told ,they are so low in happiness and self-esteem as a nation that the government is running ads with famous Germans to try and get the country as a whole to be happier and stuff.
Anyways, it doesn't really surprise me how the results panned out (except for Germany). It makes really good sense that nations that are more individualistic would have better self-esteem.

It's no wonder they have one of the highest teenage suicide rates in the world.
"You get B? You dishonor your family!!! I disown you!!!!!" j/k
I actually really like their culture. They're very family oriented from what I've seen. And most of the Japanese families I know are very productive members of society.

Actually, I was really surprised by the German ranking too...
Both Japan and German lost the WWII, but one rank so much higher than the other o.o Both have strong technical advancement, both have done something like the holocaust, and perhaps even more similiarities... but, the self-esteem survey certainly didn't agree on that one...
I know for a fact that Japanese are taught to be "self-sacrifising" for the higher. As the saying "Sacrifise small self to complete the big self. That is also taught in many other far east asian countries... which kill off alot of individualistics.
I am not very keen with european teaching thou... so can't say much about German.

It doesn't surprise me at all that Japan is the lowest. Just look at all those anime's that end up so fricken depressing. I mean, come on! It's a fantasy right? Make it fricken happy! I hate depressing things.

Hmm.. I know that Japanese man that go straight to home after work are usually given a bad name in their work place, so they all go to some kind of dinner party together and get stone (just men). Which lead me to believe those pictures were their hang over/drunk sleep.
