if you can't handle critics, don't post the pictures.

If a person cannot offer an intelligent REASON for critique beyond quoting some obscure pot-head dogmatic trite, then keep your "opinion" not "criticism" to yourself.

Two posts were meant to help, the rest had no well-intentioned meaning save to take up space. This is nothing new.

The thread is dead.

You seriously need to calm down, SOT. Who're you to call someone's opinion "obscure pot-head dogmatic trite"? People are allowed to give their opinions either way, the REASON for their statements was simply that's how they feel. If you can't respect other peoples views and opinions as much as you WANT us to respect yours, don't post shit like this in the first place. Criticism isn't always in favor of your personal preferences, and sometimes there aren't pages of "reason" to back them up, they're just preferences. While I guess you didn't actually ASK for any criticism, when you post your work you're going to get it. You also need to remember we're on the INTERNET. People will speak their mind how they choose, you can either accept that or you can defend yourself via insulting others, but for the record, the latter isn't the right way to go about things in my opinion.

And for future reference, Naprius is right. Don't post your work if you can't handle criticism, because people don't magically know just what sort of criticism you want to hear and what sort you don't.

To Lildude, as someone who works with several forms of art, I can honestly say that honesty is ALWAYS the best criticism. Things like "It's great" or "I think that part's absolute shit compared to the rest" are still appreciated. It's my choice to filter through their ideas, sure, but I still enjoy hearing the truth.

And once again, constructive criticism is fine by me, as it is a means for me to better my endeavors. One - Two line "opinions" offer no insight into the matter, and are, as I said already, self-serving and meaningless.

Telling me a dipshit quote is not constructive criticism. Explaining HOW I can better the pictures is constructive criticism. Of all people piewad, I would think you'd get that.

Still a dead topic, why not kick it around another page or two? You people disgust me.

Appreciate it. I think the dead space is rather bad as well. I am thinking of adding a diffused background, but have no idea what as yet. Thanks.

np, i know what it takes to do this kind of thing because i do computer animations, which by far takes longer to work on especially if you do it from scratch

Regarding the background, what you could do is visit that parking lot again or one very similair and snap a photo of the lights, but capture the ground in it as well. (could be street lights, lights in a parking lots, whatever works) Then photoshop your pole, and cut out all of the background except where the light hits the parking lot cement. Actually, better than that I think would be not to then photoshop out the rest of it, but grayscale everything but the now-floating-lights and the whole beam of light thing on to the ground, to make it emphasized over everything else...if you know what I mean. I could throw up an example if that'd help.

pies idea sounds pretty good, might wanna think about that one, or you could use your current design, add some photoshop lighting effects, then create a backround from scratch

SOT, when people look at the album art in the music store, they are not going to write to you to give a detailed reason of why they like it or not. CD art is something you can have a gut reaction to.

In detail. I don't like the picture, it doesn't look like landing lights it looks like a cluster of street lights with the pole still visible. They are too clunky to look like a cool spaceship and you didn't mention what genre of music the album is. So how can we make any sensible judgement of how good the album art is? You were pretty light on the details yourself, which implies you were looking for views based on the picture and title alone. Also "Landing Lights" does not capture my imagination as a title either. It just sounds a little boring. That's not meant in a malicious way, it's just a matter of taste. I didn't think lens flare was as bad as some others did.

A constructive idea. Well how about having a series of runway lights. Then if I see this album on the shelf I will read landing lights and see runway lights and think "hey those are runway lights" and it will have taken a mcrosecond more of my attention while looking for the album I want.

Appreciate it. Although most of my previous albums did well in the local markets I placed them into, and the art was actually less amazing, lol. The scene I am a part of cares more en masse for the music than the disc sleeves, but I digress. I do not plan on having this mass-market available, because that would negate my principles. However your reasoning and suggestion make sense to me, and I am now stumped on how to improve it alongside pie's idea as well

Once again you could just use his runway lights idea, and emphasize the lights by draining color out of everything but the lights, or blurring everything a slight bit, or something.

my theory on art

never try to improve a completed work

always try to make it worse

making it worse tends to get coooooler results

Most anything done to a finished piece of art is going to be an improvement, because usually the only reason anyone will touch it is if they begin to dislike it themselves. I can't count the number of times I look back on old pieces of mine and think "God that looks like shit", even though it was only a week old or so.
