In my mind, I "hear" the word "own" but with pursed lips as if to say "pawn."
How do you pronounce PLZ? j/k

Quote:
Pronunciation: (pôn) Originally a misspelling of the word own, as in to totally have a skillful advantage over someone or something pwn is to more than just own; to pwn.
|
pwn (vt. or vi.) 1. to defeat (someone)thoroughly or to a great extent 2. to outdo or outmatch (someone) past tense - pwnt or pwned ( ? < leet speak/gaming terminology p + (o)wn)
Multi-meanings per gameplay. FPS : Point Whoring; Taking opportunity to amass points quickly with little opposition.
Quote:
PWN (verb)
1. An act of dominating an opponent.
2. Great, ingenious; applied to methods and objects.
Originally dates back to the days of WarCraft, when a map designer mispelled "Own" as "Pwn". What was originally supose to be "player has been owned." was "player has been pwned".
Pwn eventually grew from there and is now used throughout the online world, especially in online games.
|
Quote:
The verb to pwn (past tense: pwned, pwnd, pwn'd, pwnt, pooned) as used by the Internet gaming subculture, means to beat or dominate an opponent. While it probably originated as a typing error of the word own, it is now used intentionally by many members of the subculture. The term has become so ubiquitous in Internet circles that it is often used outside of gaming contexts; for example, "He just got pwned in that debate" or "The hunters pwned that bear."

Pwn is just a jackass typo of own...
Just don't use the word all together, you'll just sound stupid.
I'm not kidding.

I always pronounced it pown.
It was funny at Comic Con San Diego, which I have gone to with my father every year since I was in Jr. High he picked up a shirt reading, "Rent to Pwn." He looks at me and goes here is a shirt for you, you could rent to uhh pppowwn.
I had to explain to him it was still rent to own except in dumb gamer speak. I agree with Chris, all the l33t speak just makes you sound like you live only the net and never see the light of day. Get out and socialize with non-pixels it will help you with real life skills.

I'm slowly morphing into saying "poon". Mainly because of the multiple meanings of it. And it sounds hilarious.
