What's that? Is that the new Mini-Game that Anet added to LA?
I don't understand.

I have a strong disliking for it, I didn't mind the other call of duty games (though I would like it if they gave you much more freedom when it came to going about the objectives, something like Far Cry). I suppose what I hate most is that it's basically Call of Duty all over again, not much was added that appeals to me. Above all though, I think the character models are UGLY AS SHIT. So much bumpmapping on the models they stick out way too much when compared to the surroundings, it just doesn't flow well. It looks like action figures walking around as opposed to people. The enviornments do look really good, though. I just hate those character models with a passion. (Don't blame it on a "shitty system" on my end, I'm running it on max (though without AA because I can't tell a difference when it's on or off hardly).)

It is CoD 1 all over again, except it plays out in a time line, the action starts b4 the normandty invasion, many, not all think ww2 started when d-day happened but thats so not true. They are covering a war so there is only so much they can do....the tanks are fun as hell to drive and targeting for artillery is also fun and exciting. I love the hold your breath key for sniping, mix that with a prone and the siper scope does not move a bit
I do agree with the bumpmapping u said, for the most part it is executed well but some things ae not, like i freaked when i saw the old russian in the beginning. It got better and better though. Not far from now when texture resolutions can get bigger and thus more detailed and smaller bump then it will be super sick, but in all i say it was still wicked to see. Models look fine to me i mean after all with the amount of people on the screen at once u can only have so many polys rendered. i say the not the 8000 series nvidia but the 9000 will see movie like realism in terms of humans.

You can hardly even notice the bodies shadows themselves, it's just you see plastic bodies and then a realistic looking background. The models are good in themselves, and the enviornment is very good in itself, but together, the player models don't fit with the flow of the enviornment, as is easily demonstrated by that first screenshot.

good point. that's the problem with most of these highly-realistic games; sometimes the player models can look a bit too much like plastic.
the terrain doesn't look to great, it's a just some more repeating patters made to look like sand.
but still, it deals with WWII. WWII and D-Day are my two biggest obsessions, and i tend to purchase/read anything that has to do with World War II and D-Day.
it's kind of sad that people actually think that WWII actually started on June 6, 1944. the deaths of many thousands of American soldiers and sailors seem all but forgotten. who knows anything worth a dime about Bloody Ridge in Guadalcanal? not many. who knows anything at all about the Normandy Beach? pretty much anyone who knows anything about world war II. it's too bad that people underappreciate the sacrifices of so many soldiers.
also, can people really be so stupid as to NOT put 2 and 2 together and remember about the Pearl Harbor attack? December 7th, 1942?!

I still think Day of Defeat/Day of Defeat: Source are the greatest WWII games, there are just too many of them out now, really. Day of Defeat will always be my favorite, and source is just awesome. No single player, but it's still a great WWII set game. I never liked the whole "Ok go get these plans and bring them back to Capt. Whogivesashit at the jeep!" sort of things. I'm much more into things like Far Cry, where it was like. Get here, how you get there and how you kill whoever gets in your way is up to you. Half-Life 2 also had that feel, you knew where you had to go, but the way in which you killed them and went about your business could be altered. In CoD, it's basically, run in building, shoot shoot shoot, walk outside, shoot shoot shoot, etc. Not really much talent or personal taste allowed in.

Hehe... I still haven't beaten HL2 singleplayer. Nearly finished it last night (couldn't play GW cuz no internet access) but then internet came back and it was back to GW again. Still, HL2 is my favorite singleplayer FPS, because it's so much fun to kill people with the gravity gun

well, it seems that instanced worlds aren't really your cup of tea. or plate of pie, for that matter.
i still haven't bought HL2 the demo was beautiful....it's too bad i've got so much on my plate right now...i'll have to wait for the summer to even consider buying another computer game. that's a lot of waiting.

WWII shooters are so overdone. I like my shooters over the top... I want rocket launchers, portable nuclear devices, rail guns, laser cannons.... muahahahahahaha! UT2k4 FTW.

UT 2k4 > Quake 4... and it's not even close. The single player Q4 is uninspired at best, boring at worst... and the multiplayer can't even compare to UT. Now if you're talking old-school Quake, sure. Quake sharpened the Doom formula of what a sci-fi FPS should be.

I'm just talking about the idea, Unreal Tournament is just a ripoff of Quake as a whole. Hell Quake III's just like it, the weapons are just like it, but Quake came first. Quake 4's only been out a very short while and is on an entirely different engine, so you can't even compare the two.
