Good god, I know it uses Nasa stuff, but £32k for a phone with no FM Radio or MP3 player? I'd sell my soul if I was mad enough to get one!

y'know I'm just crazy enough to want a cell phone retro-styled like handset part of the old rotary phones... - but just to hang on my hip.
It'd have that old rubbery coiled cord (twisted out of shape, of course) attached to a separate unit which consists just of a big 'ol rotary dial.
It rings with that loud physical clang (a digital emulation of the old ring tone) and I'd lift the receiver to my ear.
Now that I think about it I kinda miss using that clunky dial ... zziiiiig-gutta-gutta-gutta....zziiiig-gutta-gutta-gutta-gutta-gutta... zzzigg .....
To justify the bulk it should have an incredible battery life and the best reception technology can muster.
----
Hearing all those obnoxiously "clever" musical ringtones in public irritate me. I would love to shut them all up when my big ringing rotary-phone style peals out unapologetically.
I'll take mine in British-Racing-Green or FBI-Black...

Man I remember having one of those rotary dial phones when I was growing up. They used to fascinate me so much and I would just sit there and mess with them just short of making random calls. Good times.

Now that I think about it, why has technology gotten so "wimpy"? Those old rotary phones could be thrown down a flight of stairs or fall from a moving vehicle but still remain functional. They weren't made of sheet metal but good-ol-plastic. On the other hand, if I were to drop my brand new Motorola cell phone from a height of 5 feet onto the pavement the thing would be demolished!

meh, can't remember picking up a rotary phone... must've been very little... :S
I'm starting to mess around with my phone and no wonder it's so good! the tuner is brilliant when you listen to the radio ^_^ and the camera is alright as well, able to store next to 1,000 1mp pictures, and it also stores JPG and AVI media, and also doubles as a single album MP3 players ^_^
I can't wait to store my old phones (via a backup manager) onto my new number, and fire away!

Yes Everyone had that old Phone...or it's Brother the wall unit with a short cord. Nothing like being in a hurry to dial a number..*sigh*...it was so slow.
We also could just dial the number by using the "hang-up" buttons like a telegraph. Nine quick taps for the number 9...and so on.

This sounds almost like my satellite communications kit.

Didn't they phase that out on POTS? I used to be able to do that but I heard they were gonna stop it.
