Vote: Third Annual 1UP Awards
Guild Wars is up for 2005 Best Massively Multiplayer and Game of the Year categories in the Third Annual 1UP Awards. Unlike the idiotic SpikeTV VGA Power Rank voting, you can only vote once. Vote for whoever you want...I'm just the messenger.
Nominees in mentioned categories:
2005 Best Massively Multiplayer:- City of Villians
- Puzzle Pirates
- Guild Wars
2005 Game of the Year:- F.E.A.R.
- Guitar Hero
- The Movies
- Guild Wars
- We Love Katamari
- GTA: Liberty City Stories
- Indigo Prophecy
- Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
- God of War
- Perfect Dark Zero
- Call of Duty 2
- Battlefield 2
- Gran Turismo 4
- Psychonauts
- Civilization IV (PC)
- Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
- Dead or Alive 4
- Soul Calibur 3
- Project Gotham Racing 3
- Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Resident Evil 4
- King Kong
- Dragon Quest VIII
Lots of other categories, but those are the two in which Guild Wars was nominated.

Yeah, I know. I always wonder that myself every time it's placed in that category. Wait...City of Heroes/Villians...doesn't that use instances like Guild Wars does? I haven't played CoH/V, but I've read reviews...

Anyone played Indigo Prophecy (or Fahrenheit, as it's known outside of the States)? I was surprised to see it on the GotY list, not because it doesn't deserve to be listed there, but because it was kind of a sleeper hit. Glad it's getting props. Didn't vote for it, but still. Good game.

I rented it... couldn't stand it. It gives you the impression that you can play around, explore, try stuff... and then you realize that if you don't do X within Y time period, the game is over. And X is not always clear or intuitive.

Yes... just what the world needs, yet ANOTHER WWII shooter. I know it looks "amazing", but please... let's have some new IP's instead of one more mindless rehash of D-Day.

call of duty is far from just d-day in fact you start off befor d-day and for your info ww2 is one of the best wars for games
and every modern warfare game i've ever played controls suck thats BF2 as well that or they run off of steam and i will never play something that uses that
if they would make a modern warfare fps that had a good interface your argument would hold water but it doesn't
and i hate horror movies and games like doom3 and fear will never be played by me having the crap scared out of me is not fun
as far as i know there isn't a ww1 game out there how about we go about geting one of those made or how about a cilvil war fps

Well, now there really is no need, with Call of Duty. Although, WWII is my favorite FPS setting, so I don't mind if they make some more. WWI would be cool, as well.

Brothers in Arms, Medal of Honor (all 5 billion of them), Call of Duty, and now there's going to be games based on Band of Brothers... and those are just the ones I can come up with off the top of my head. Where does it end? How many times can we rehash the same, tired material? Give me more Far Cry's, give me more Half-Life's... give me something original, not just another lame attempt to recreate "Saving Private Ryan".

Of course... but what do publishers do? They rehash the same material. Every WWII game MUST include Normandy, period. It's practically required. Every WWII game that includes playing from the British side MUST include North Africa. Every WWII game that includes the Soviets MUST include Stalingrad. This is part of the problem 95% of the war gets ignored in favor of a few tired segments that everyone seems to take their own impression of.
Would Half-Life have been so revolutionary if it simply would've been a Normandy rehash? Imagination drives innovation forward, not immitation.
