Can someone take a moment to address the spyware issue? I know we already had a thread on that but it died off pretty quick and I would like to get the opinion of those people participating on this thread. Is it really spyware, and is it an issue to you?

Ok I am sold, WoW is going for 34.99 by me. I am looking for a game that has more involvement than GW does. The cost per month does not bother me that much if the game has alot of more content. Anyway Winter is coming here so have to hunker down for atleast 3-5 months so I will try it out with a 3 month sub. Hell I waste more money than that on usless other crap I really do not need...lol

I played WoW for 8 months and got to lvl 60 on one character (Shaman on Crushridge) and 40 on another. WoW does require alot of time to play even if it does have some things that give advantages to casual players. (rest xp) I've actually tried all the classes except paladins and i have gotten to at least 20 with all of them. The game itself is huge. There are at least 10+ instnaces to do and tons of places to explore. And then theres also the new expansion coming out soon.
In the game itself there is alot of stuff to do. At the lower levels its all about exploration and questing. Once you hit 40 it really is time for you to start grinding out the levels. At 60, all you can really do is farm for money/supplies or go on an instance. The instances do get tougher and most of the end-game ones require 20-40 people to finish an instance. (so if you do get this far youshould be in an awesome guild that uses TS/Vent) The raids are alot more fun but they can get hectic alot of the times, especially if your a raid leader.
Overall though, it did put out alot of fun. THeres just so much to do that you'll sometimes never stop playing. I was extremely addicted to WoW during the summer and i quit because my dad stopped paying the fee. But yea this game is mainly for hardcore MMORPGers who have time to do 3+ hours of raiding/instnacing just to get good stuff in the game or get better.

I play WoW now, and its not like guild wars.

Guild wars is when I want to have straight forward action. Like I want to kick ass now.

WoW is for those who want EPIC journeys to wherever, even to your mom's house. They game is fun. And the content is amazing, I never get bored, I think.

I might concider buying this game, but I do not want a game that has to be endured. Like you have to sit on your butt for 8 hours to do anything worthwhile. And do you have to have any prior knowledge to Warcraft to fully enjoy it? As I do not know anything about that series of games. Does this game run well on middle of the run systems? As I do not have the best computer in the world. Seeing as everyone seems to be quiting Guild Wars to play this game. I thought I'd look into it, because there must be a reason why everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. One more question, what is this spyware issue they are talking about in WoW and is it really something that important that it would warrant not buying this game?

Well I went ahead and took the plunge. I was able to pick up the game and a 2 month card for just $60... a pretty good deal I thought. Of course that means I'll be playing very little GW anymore. Not that I was playing a lot to begin with.

I guess I'll be seeing some of you in Azeroth.

Hey guys, just two questions please.

1. Let's say I just bought the game. How many megs of updates do you think it would be to patch?

2. Does this game lag for dialup users?

Main reason I play GW. Dialup 4 life.

Well, a valid credit card or a gamecard (60 day) is REQUIRED to create an account. Although you can change payment plans later on, a credit card is not required to play the game.

hey cletus, when i got wow i had to update to the v1.7 patch(400 somehting mb) then some smaller patches later on( 21 and 35 mb patches).
i dunno if it lags for dialup but i lag coz of my pc and i hav 512k dsl.

I find lag has nothing to do with your connection but to what the servers are up to personally. Everyone usually experiences lag at the same time lol.

If you optimized your machine and what not, you might actually be able to enjoy the game, in some areas. Large battles would be a slide-show for you, and really big one's would most likely knock you offline. Literally.

If you have the spirit gaurdian in the corpse graveyard raise you, you lose a % on your stats and gear for a pre-set time. Basically you are a weakling against mobs during this time. If you run back to your corpse and resurrect, you will have less health than you had, and have to heal or eat something to fix that.
ALL DEATH causes serious, permanent (until repaired) durability hits on your equipped items.

The program mentioned in the other thread was originally reported by a bunch of anti-blizzard fanatics. They wanted to put the scare on Blizzard's customer base, and help steer others away from the game that had not yet gotten into it. I surmise, from serious thought and personal experience working tech support for an online game, that many of these loony toons were former customers of WOW, that were banned for trying to exploit the game in some way, got pissy that their parade has been pissed out of the park, and there you go.

The program is NOT god damn spyware, and I do not care how many idiots screaming in the wind there are. If you look at the god damn SOURCE CODE (for all the geniuses out there who claim to know how shit works, try that one, smartypants, some of us KNOW code, not the hype of it), the code clearly shows how the applet functions, in a NON-SPYWARE capacity.

The program is basically like a plugin for the WOW client, that Blizzard can use to monitor all suspicious activity going on on THEIR, yep, THEIR servers. You see, in GW, a hack might lag or slow or crash a district. In WOW, entire populated servers are at stake. When you have that much personal property at the mercy of an random asshat that wants to come along and be cute, you have to do what you have to do.

As far as the application keeping track of your processes list, the program looks for stuff that is already in it's known threat listing, or uses Hiuristical scanning to locate potential malicious threats in the future. It does not, can not, and will not, keep tabs on your other prgrams, or what you are doing on the web.

Quite frankly, even if it did, only child porn rings, software pirates, and other such morons would have anything to be worried about from this applet. I think the defensiveness of their position is more from what they wanna hide from mommy and daddy, than Blizzard. Blizzard is a game company, not Dick Cheney.
