A terrible tragedy
Just read in the news that a local teenager died last evening when a sword was knocked from its mounting on a bedroom wall, where he and his younger siblings were playing with a ball. The boy was cut on the neck and shoulder and bled to death before arriving at a hospital.
Many gamers (and others) have one or more swords and other medieval replicas. Personally, I don't, but one of my daughters has one mounted on her wall as in this case. She has two teenagers, and a lot of their friends come and go.
Admittedly, this was a freak accident, but it would be a good idea for those of us who own these replicas to remember that they are weapons capable of causing serious, even lethal damage, and to make double sure that they are properly secured.

That is pretty awful, but they should have take then necessary precautions with a battle-ready weapon!

I've got a bunch of old war sword replicas and civil war swords hanging on my wall, but you have to make sure you unsharpen them before you hang them somewhere where its dangerous.

Alternatively, you could simply bolt them to the wall, where it requires screwdrivers to take em off.

Thats what i would suggest, and make sure its high up and away from any area (like a bed) or something people would be standing/jumping on - just to prevent a cut.

Guide to Unsharpining Sword By Retribution X, In accordance with the prophecy...
Not really, but, Why the hell were they playing around those anyway?
In my brain, that's an accident waiting to happen, In accordance with the prophecy...

I'm scared enough of hot water-bottles, I wouldn't hang a sword over my bed. :S

Wow, those things are actually dangerous. While it's sad that accidents like that happen, I'm definately going after any future robbers with one. I've always wondered what it'd be like to see a headline like "Local gamer chops robber in half with Cloud Strife's buster sword replica"

See, this is why when you want every OTHER weapon, you have to have a license. Just because something is old doesn't mean it isn't effective. I mean, a sword was designed for one thing - KILLING. Okay? It's NOT A FREAKING TOY.
BTW, Pie, you can have Cloud's buster sword. I'll take Vincient's Peace Maker (A real weapon, I might add.)

The best way I've found to keep all my bladed weapons (including two swords) from causing accidential injury when I'm not training with them is to:
1. Keep them in the damn sheath.
2. Put them somewhere where I know I won't be able to get to when I'm drunk.
Of course, I have more of a utilitarian view of weapons and can't understand why someone would hang a 3ft. blade on their wall unless it offered some sort of tactical advantage.

All the weapons in my house are sheathed so I don't know why you would hang one

I keep telling you man, I want a sword gun. Nothing more badass than a big friggin' blade that fires bullets.

This reminds me of that episode of Home Movies where the coach buys all the swords and tries to trade them in for food.
I want a sword, as soon as I get money I am buying a sword with like +5 strength. As for the story, pretty sad but in my house we have a saying, get hurt while your goofing off no one will feel bad for you.... its not as much as a saying as it is a... umm.. doing?

Mister Overhill....
I find that bit of info very disturbing. All it would have took is ten minutes of careful planning and it could have been avoided.
Nothing can fully protect your children...but a simple walkthrough the house can do more then you would think in avoiding such a tragedy!
The lost of one of our children would ruien both Mrs Dood's and my life for good!
