And prices keep stacking...
1 Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe: $157.95
2 eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256-P2-N516 Video Cards: $638.00
1 CORSAIR 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel: $73.80
1 Open F90GS Black 19" 12ms LCD Monitor: $299.99
1 Saitek Black Wired Eclipse Keyboard: $47.00
Getting better frames than all your friends in the city/country/world? Priceless. Kinda.
My holiday project is gonna eat through my saved dough preeeeetty quick :3 I recon I have $2,000 saved up since last year. This setup will cost me roughly $1,100, leaving about $900 to shop for me gal and close friends.
Anyone else going to spoil themselves?

Have been already...(Nice smart purchasing there by the way).
I have purchased my new Dell...added to that...even as we speak I am waiting for my last upgrade...more ram...2Gb more. Dunno why...just because I guess. Needed to buy some for my son's 2 year old Toshiba laptop to bring him up to max(1Gb) and ended up clicking on another 2Gb ram kit for me. Maybe another vid card down the road...Probably will wait a couple of years and get a newer computer with even spiffier Bells & Whistles. Windows Vista will be out then. Will need a 512Gb Vid Card for that... It never ends...
Mrs Dood's Birthday this Monday....so we are having a Birthday weekend for her.

Damn, that is utterly disturbing Echo. That is my exact system ('cept I have twice the ram). Damn.

My brother just spent over £200 on a whoopass 19" monitor and a 32-bit 2-speaker card! Honestly, after seeing it, I've been itching to adjust to the damn thing!

I played that game for a few days (damn me and my gaming ADD), and from what I played it was a totally well put together game.
I need to learn how to play a game until it is finished. I can't really do that on computers.
Consoles - yes, computers - I play games for like 2 days and then move onto the next game that comes out.
Its because I can download them... Hmm...

Hear Ye...Hear Ye! Read All about it! Just received in the mail my Holiday Issue of PC Gamer Magazine. First of all there was no review of Civ4. That was irritating. I wanted to see if they were going to give it a honest review. Seems other mags have been giving it a Glowing Review even though many can not play it because it was released way too early.
The point of the post is PC Gamer has another excellent step by step build your own game box article. An AMD 3500 series chip I believe and a SLI motherboard and two 6800Ultras. (I dont have it in front of me...going by memory) Nice pictures and WARNINGS...like how to install the Main chip correctly and all. A good template for anyone you know that wants to build a box and you don't want to DO EVERYTHING for them.
EDIT: Ok...I ran upstairs and ripped the mag from my Daughter's hands...here is the Poop:
CASE: Aspire X Navigator ATXA8NW-AL/500 $150.00<--no clue if any good...
PSU: Enermax EG701AX-VE 600W $ 40.00<--This seemed cheap...too cheap
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Socket 939) $219.00 <--what is better then this? FX57?
M-board: ASUS A8N-SLI ATX $135.00<--Once again..NO clue
RAM: Rosewell 2X512Mb $ 88.00 <--This brand any good? Why not get 2Gb...
Vid-Card: 2 PNY Geforce 6800GT $648.00<--seems about right
Optical Drv:Plextor PX-740A $ 93.00
Floppy: Mitsumi USB2.0 & FFD Digital Reader $ 21.00<--I always get a Floppy! Old School Baby!
Hard Drive: Western Dig SE 320GB Serial ATA150 $160.00 <-Nice...get two!
SoundCard: Creative X-FI Extreme Music $130.00<--I would get the Audigy Z..save some cash there.
OS: Win XP Home SP2 $ 92.00
TOTAL: $1776.00
This is based on their sponser NewEgg.com. Not bad really. I could spend that much on a Dell XPS 400(DIM9100) real easy. Also note...NO Monitor! And YES you can probably get parts cheaper...this is just what they published. I like it for the information it gives you. Nice little tips on how to set some of the parts without breaking them.

If I got that system I'd want a few more things. Keyboard... Mouse... Those might help. Most people get a headset, for those late night gaming sessions. They are also required at certain lan parties. And then I'd personally get a DVD drive so I could make direct copies of things easier. Thats just how I roll though...
Depending on what you get, that would add a bit of $$$.
You already mentioned the monitor also. So over 2k for a gaming machine? I know for a fact that you can get a good gaming machine off of newegg for like 1100-1300.
And that is a very expensive floppy drive...
I know you said that prices could be cheaper... I'm just saying... Yeah... Well... I'm bored.

Well they usually post LIST(Wish List) Prices. I figured they knew you could get everything else on your own...OR...use your previous keyboard, monitor, etc. This was a Game box upgrade! As for the Floppy, it was a Card reader & Floppy drive. Good brand name too.

While were still around-topic with computers... is it me or is it cheaper in Britain due to cheaper Export/Import rates?
This was the stuff I have for my PC
Chenbro Gaming Bomb 1: £40
Micro ATX Motherboard: £120
Ram of 512MB: around £20 each, x2
HDD, 200GB and 120GB: ~£150
Graphics Card: Nvidia 6600: £150 (not a joke, I swear!!)
19" monitor: £120
PSU, 500w: £20
32Bit Soundblaster speakers: £80
AMD Sempron 64-bit 3Ghz+(estimate) Processor: £120
CD-RW and DVD-Rom Drives: £60
XP Home OEM: £82
Wireless Kit, Mouse and Keyboard: £35
So my total comes around to... £1,037, including the VAT garbage on top, excluding Broadband.

I don't think it sounds cheaper omega. I bought a very similar computer for about $1,800. And I'm pretty sure exchange rates on money make yours more expensive.

around $1,807.08 in your areas... so it's ABOUT the same than dood's build, and this is built from the ground up as well
but I think Echo may have spares or will be left disappointed with a few missing items before he can use his computer. Not a sarcastic swipe, but it takes a lot more than 6 items to build a damn computer from scratch
