Default WoW PvP vs GW PvP

My friend and I are arguing.

She is a WoW player and i am a GW player. She keeps insisting that GW is boring and repetitive and I keep insisting the same about WoW.

Anyways...we get into pvp aspects and since i never pvp in WoW and she never pvp in GW, its hard to compare.

Anyone here who plays WoW and GW and PVPs heavily please explain to me the differences and similarities? ^^;;

im sorry but im gunna have to agree with ur friend. there are different types of PvP in wow, and GW is good and still kinda fun but wow is better. you can pvp in arenas or go kill in any pvp server in a contested territory or raid a large city whenever u get a group. there are many ranks and u get better armor as you go. too much to say

but you need to spend 2,000,000,000 hours to get gear good enough to pvp in wow then its gear and skill and builds and crap you find were as GW the pvp is a even ground just build and a little in the weapons you use

Just invite her over so she can try GW out. I'm not going to bash WOW though but if she enjoy's clicking a billion times to get gold for half-decent gear for PVP then thats her problem, in GW you just make a PVP Char.

I had a friend that plays WoW. For the monthly fee it isn't worth it. When they came to class or lunch time, there only concern was how they would go "own" people and take on raids and stuff. The monthly fee adds to OBLIGATION to play, rather than just for enjoyment.

Did I mention the graphics suck, the walks between places are horrid, and people PK you for fun?

That is why some people call it "world of warcrack" not "world of warcraft". It consumes your life and money.

My arguement has been that GW's PvP is more balanced (which i really feel it is) vs WoW's system where armor and stuff you need to pvp are based on how much you farm.

Really, WoW's PvP is not that varied. The maps are NOT varied. I would say Guild Wars has far more varied maps and...well...gameplay.
Except they actually have 1v1.

World of Warcraft is no Guild Wars in PvPing.
Guild Wars is no World of Warcraft in grinding.

People enjoy WoW PvP because it's more in depth and involves a much deeper sense of battle. It's got more varied sorts (raids, one on one, etc) as opposed to GuildWars singular style: Arena. GuildWars has only an arena style PvP with teams behind gates, the timer hits zero, and they go at it. GuildWars is very repetitive when it comes to PvP, as it's the same style, fighting the same builds, etc. But it's also very fast paced and is VERY balanced.

World of Warcraft on the other hand has larger non-arena style battles, raiding, etc. People enjoy this sort of "attack/siege" sort of PvP. However, while WoW might have different less repetitive styles, WoW's PvP is VERY unbalanced. If GuildWars were to utilize a "war" style PvP system it would be much more enjoyable (in my opinion) than WoW's, because you wouldn't have some lvl 60 guy come up and knock the crap out of your lvl 40 or something with one shot. People who like even, balanced battles go for GuildWars. People who like epic more war-like battles with massacres and ganking go for WoW.

I get the feeling that because people enjoy WoW's style PvP so much, that in the upcoming chapter for GuildWars, Factions, that in this next chapter Anet will have implemented PvP more like WoW's style. I get the feeling we'll be seeing bigger battles and obviously a PvP "war", being that there's a faction war. I think in chapter two we'll see the most balanced, epic style PvP to date in an online RPG.

Yeah. WoW PvP is a far more "roleplay"/RPG experience. It does sound like something similar is going to be incorporated into Factions, but the Battle Isles are going to remain relatively untouched, for those who prefer balanced (and daire I say, it, more tactical) battles.

Perhaps. But the emphasis is currently firmly based on squad tactics. The organisation required to put even 32+ (16+ on each team) would be horrible. It's big enough with eight. But as you said, Factions should address this without alienating those who prefer the existing strategy.

Well this isn't talking about Random Arenas...

In the namesake pvp for GW (gvg) you are pitted against people of supposed equal skill.

WoW has "dueling" but its just a rock-paper-scissors thing. The only way to test your skill in that game is for a rock to beat a paper or a rock to beat another rock... anything else is just pre-destined.

I don't see how controlls[sic] have anything to do with WoW being more fun. So you can spam jump all over the place? Jumping and running around really doesn't do much for most classes... so its pretty pointless. Just a thought.

You say ranks mean something in WoW. The system is completely broken. You kill a ton of people, you get good at killing them, you get better items to kill them with, you kill more of them. They reward the people that are good with items that make them better, making it harder to kill them. Seems pretty broken. Aside from that, the ranks bestow the users nothing but respect, and isn't that what GW ranks do? GW ranks get you into groups and guilds which allows you to win. You win, you get higher rank, you win more... its also a flawed system, but it wasn't designed that way.

Although I'm not all-knowing with both games, I think I've done ok with my post.

Just noticed... you said you can't choose anything in GW, which is sort of wrong... Can you in WoW? BGs is pretty random to me...

The main limiter of GW PvP is instanced areas and no option to PK. Eg. if you're in a town arguing with someone you can go outside and stab them in the back later on. In Guildwars besides calling each other names, theres no way to settle anything at all. It would be good if areas weren't instanced and PKing was allowed outside of towns, then there would be much more player to player interaction, Role Playing and "real" PvP instead of "stimulated" PvP.

First off... You can't stab someone in the back you were arguing with. You have to set up a duel, and its just back to rock-paper-scissors.

Second... Who determines what "real" pvp is? The definition is Player Versus Player, so players killing other players EVER counts as pvp.

Third... Your suggestion turns the game into something completely different. The game was made without PKing and was instanced because thats the way Anet wanted it to be. Changing it would make it World of Guild Wars.

PK'ing in WoW is completely optional even on a PVP server. As long as you quest in friendly territory the only someone can kill you is if you slap on a PVP flag when theres members of the opposite side around, which is basically asking for a sore ass. I like GW PVP because I can play it right away, WoW playing sessions take a looong time and most of the time you're waiting to do something.

I have heard good things about WoW, but everytime I watch someone play nothing happens. I'm not too sure how their PvP is but I watched a friend of mine play the PvE, he had a quest where he had to run to a bunch of diffrent towns, it took him two hours and he ran into about three enemies... Sofar it does not look like its worth the $15 a month to me.

I would guess their PvP is more intresting because of the bigger parties or what not, however all my friends ever say is "Lag this, lag that."

I'd have to agree with Warkst, the PvP imo in WoW is alot better then here, just because here to me its boring and repetative, where as in WoW, you fight someone, and you dont know what to expect from them because theres so many options.

and for the record, I've seen lvl 40's kill lvl 60's. Just the matter of Critical hits, and setups.

no, check: lvl 60 rogue vs lvl 40 warrior with plate armour: the warrior wins.

I like WoW due to being able to change my tactics mid-battle... that is limited in GW due to the skill bar. I also liked the ability to duel in WoW because it allowed me to really work on using skills to counteract what a certain class/profession would try to do to me.

As far as the insta-loss due to uber equipment higher level argument... tell that to the lvl 60 rogue who got his face rearranged by my lvl 39 Warlock. It was a beat down and he probably went and deleted his character immediately following; I know he complained like a four year old.
