Horror like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder , what some may consider scary others will laugh at. Hack and Slash with lots of gore are comical IMO and I find myself rooting for the villain because the victims seem to lack any common sense, Jason Vorhees? c'mon the guy doesn't run or move fast at all, just watch where ya running and ya won't trip over that rock or tree root sticking up and you'll get away. Chucky? No way in hell I'm gonna be afraid of a 2 foot doll. The movies that disturb me the most are the ones that have a more realistic villian and could / have actually happen(ed). Thrillers over Gorefests anyday.
my top horror flick picks are(No particular order);
13 Ghosts (Tony Shaloub is a great actor)
Arachnophobia (UGH damn spiders)
Creepshow(Classic)
Alfred Hitchcock , George Romero and Steven King horrors(Always good to get the blood pumping)
The Omen(original and remake)
Darkness Falls (I was surprised how creepy it was)
Dr. Giggles (Another surprise how creepy it was, Larry Drake was awesome)
Poltergeist(Classic)
Halloween(Original only Micheal Myers shoulda stayed dead)
The Hills Have Eyes (Original, I imagine the recent remake will be just as good)
The Others (Yes it did have some creepy parts)
Signs (For those of us that know we're not alone, this is a seriously disturbing movie)
Identity (Great suspense thriller and starring John Cusack)
Last House on the Left (Classic)
The Ring / Ringu movies
The Sixth Sense ( Many scenes that are disturbing)
Silence of the Lambs (Instant Classic)
When a Stranger Calls (Classic)
I hope this gives ya some ideas for your library.

The Spongebob Squarepants movie. That. Was. Scary.
Horror movies don't scare me that much. They make me laugh. Especially the old movies, they crack me up.

The Ring, The Ring 2, Dark Water, Saw, Saw 2, The Omen and Alien (meh i thought Aliens was better) are all laughable when it comes to "scary". still entertaining films though.

any Exorcist movies - freaky.
Amityville Horror - I thought it was good.
An American Haunting - some thought it scary. I thought it wierd and no worse that Nickelodeon's "Are You Afraid of The Dark?"
The Blair Witch (sarcasm)
If you like asian horror involving zombies and sweet kung-fu action, get Versus.
And for the not horror, but one of the scariest movies I've ever seen: Requiem for a Dream

I would have to go for the classics:
The first one only of
Friday the 13th
Nightmare on Elm Street (Johnny Depp dies in this one)
Halloween
I loved Poltergeist but it is not real scary.
I thought Silent Hill was pretty good at least up until the end.
I did not think The Grudge and Ring movies were very scary. I have not seen the Japanese versions though.
Movies like It's Alive creeped me out as a kid but I have not seen it as an adult so it is probably pretty stupid.

Alien
Exorcist : New Begining
Perfect Blue (it's an anime, but damn scary/freaky the first time you watch it late at night. )
Silence of the Lambs
War of the Worlds (honorable mention, some scenes were kinda whoa)
The Ring 2 (much more than the first one. )
if you're going for classics though you can't leave out : The Birds

In general, I find horror movis- both asian and western- to be entertaining but just not really scary Occasionally, though, there's a concept or moment in a film that gets to me- the revelation at the end of The Sixth Sense still sends shivers down my spine; the scene in Akira(one of the only two anime films I've ever watched) where Tetsuo metastasises in into a vast, tumour like biolgical mass disturbed me pretty deeply; and the part of The Matrix where you first see the endless fields of artificially grwon humans really hit the mark too.
Oh, and Visitor Q- that was just too bizarre for my liking.

I was going to sleep last night and there was nothing on tv to watch... Then I remembered I had "The hills have eyes" (remake) somewhere on my Hdd, Was supposed to watch so that I could just fall asleep halfway trough the movie.
Little did I know..The movie was awesome...probably the best horror movie of the year....Had me on the edge of my bed with my mouth open 80% of it.(you know in a :wtf: sence.).
I definetly Recommend it to everyone that likes these kinds of horror movies.
