I.Q = How smart you are? I think not
The I.Q test can measure things such as Language, Math abilbity, memory, geography and other common subjects in school. But it leaves out many other parts of the brain such as Emotional strength, instict, apply wacky logic to situations, fast thinking, and many other things that can't be tested.
At one point this test was used on student and studies found girls scored higher then boys. So top creaters and maintainers of this test decided 1. they couldn't admit girls were smarter then boys (cause of sexism at the time) but they weren't going to admit this test didn't correctly show smartness. So they decided to add sport questions... a balance was made.
We have little knowledge of how the brain works and we had even less knowledge back when the test was invented. So can any test accurately show how smart you are? I don't think so.
The general acceptance of the I.Q test being how smart you are to surpises me. People seems to think this magic test can show us exactly how much power a brain. Which to me is stupid.
So for me I.Q and smartness are two different things, what do you think?

I think it's just the ability to think on the fly.
I..can't really say anything else about it. It's a tough subject to argue.

IQ is just a number. There's a lot more factors that play to person being "smart" or "intelligent". Their education, their life experiences, their personality etc. High IQ doesn't mean automatic knowledge, it doesn't mean that they magically get experience on various situations and problems.
Think it's bit difficult to talk about the subject, it's pretty impossible to think how a higher IQ person would think, or how a lower IQ person would think. On other forum a person said that "normal" IQ person would think of some problems like A->B->C->D-E->-F, where as "high" IQ person would think the problem A->F, skipping some of the phases of thought, reaching a solution quicker. Of course, if the normal IQ person has experience and general knowledge of the matter, they might be able to point out the solution right away, while the high IQ person would have to think and figure out some of the stuff if he didn't have the experience and knowledge on the subject beforehand..

First define smartness, or intelligence. Then tell me how a person is smart in a way that everyone can agree on.
As you can probably see, it's an ambiguous term. IQ emcompasses some numerable quality of reasoning and deduction, not an all-around ability to think laterally or to use an amount if imagination or imprivisation.
So let's compare apples to apples.... Does an IQ test measure how accurately you can solve the questions posed in the test itself? Yes. And the logical conclusion is, by using that as a basis, one can predict with some accuracy how a person would fare answering similar questions, or dealing with situations similar to those posed in the test.
It's nearly impossible to qualify or quantify how smart a person is. While one person may have an inclination towards solving riddles, for example, another may have the ability to instantly learn languages. Both talents are genius in their own way, but due to the near impossibility of normalizing the trait of "smartness" over an entire globe, you can't really test it.
So the I in IQ may be a misnomer if you take the colloquialism of the word, which refers to a person's natural or exclusive abilities. More specifically, though, the test itself is to measure something set and quantifiable. It doesn't necessarily qualify a person's abilities as a human.

My I.Q. on average (based on several tests, throughout several years) seems to be between 124 and 129.
But does it give me the feeling I'm smarter than people who have a lower IQ? Hell no.
I realise that there's ALWAYS something to learn, and that sticking a number on what's presumably your 'level' of thought is just narrowing down the mind (=arrogance) or motivating to keep on learning stuff.
I picked the second thing, as i love getting intrigued by... intriguing stuff, basically.
I was a genius in school (according to my classmates... really!), but then were my results so mediocre? I just happened to know random crap that they didn't, and I'm 100% sure that they know at least as much as i know, but about other things.
IQ tests are crap. Or at least don't do one on the internet... the only use i can think of for it, is for when you're applying for a job and you want to impress the people... just like 'rank' is 'needed' in Heroes' Ascent: you may be rank 6 and trying to get in a balanced, but you got the fame through iway.
Intelligence, for me, is dependent on the subject at hand... therefore, i won't say that someone's actually dumb al-round, because I know that he is capable of doing things i can't, and that he could possess knowledge that i'm dying to know.

I was exactly the same way in public school, and was a loner because of it. I am still that way in college (but without the loner part), so I understand exactly what you mean.
Last time I took one was when I was 18 (I'm 20 now) and I scored around 140. I don't quite remember the exact number, but I'm leaning towards 144 as the score. A few points dont really matter though. But, in reality, the score doesn't mean much. I really don't think there will ever be a single test balanced enough for everyone to take and be able to accurately measure someone's mental "ability".

It's a big cliche, but I think it's true that the most accurate IQ test is life.

Tests show nothing but book smarts, for example I have a friend who is a straight A student, I am a B student. While she is much smarter than I am I in most knowledge based situation I normally come out on top when it comes to real life situations.
For example for a quick cool down in the summer I open my fridge and put a fan in front of it, this idea had never crossed her mind. However since her computer is not next to a fridge like mine is this did not work, so instead I told her to get two dish towels and get them wet, place one in the freezer, use them to cool down, and rotate them as needed. Clearly there are some things in life you can not learn from a book. While it is not life changing it does show how I may not know when a train leaving from New Mexico will reach New York going 35km/h, but I do know how to beat the heat.
IQ is just a number ment to make some people feel superior over others.

speaking about schools
the bit about girls score higher then boys is true, tests prove it, but we all know the obvious reason, theres only one thing on the boys mind
however tests also prove in single-sex schools people score higher, its a big debate in many countries about this.
so it would seem this generation of males are getting hornier.

I have never understood tests. Teahcers spend all their time telling us to be creative and original. Then test time come and we get standardized testing. Hypocrites.

Hurray horny males! Boo boring uptight stiff asses!
I think IQ tests are over rated meanwhile a good friend of mine common sense is left feeling like the helmet wearing Forrest Gump in the back of the bus.

The real question is
Is the Generation of males getting hornier OR are the girls just getting hotter?

If I remember correctly, a lot of the original tests showed that girls scored higher in certain areas, while boys scored higher in the opposite ones. I'm a guy(guys scored higher at the time in maths and sciences), yet languages come more naturally to me now than science. These may not have been IQ tests, but it meshes with what Ultimate Gaara said. In the end its a difference between book smarts and 'street' smarts. Person A may be able to solve complex equations quickly, while Person B can figure out a puzzle more efficiently. Does intelligence denote creativity? The ability to think quickly when time is short and the pressure is on? What the people who make those standardized tests don't seem to realize is that, though we do tend to show certain trends in scores, everybody is wired so differently that the numbers are pretty much useless in real life.
And yes, its the girls that are getting hotter.

This also could bring in a part of employment, as I've heard, some companies are looking for experience rather then how much you've read in books that could be outdated[since we all know how badly school books can be out of date, aka pluto]
Some people can't take tests well..... many errors can change the person's "true" iq, and it's a bloody test of random crap!
