I like newer stuff like NIN, Biosphere, but I would have to agree some of the classic stuff like Floyed rocks. Zeppelin is also a good artest to listen to when playing GW, especially Ramble On (where they talk about Lord Of The Rings in the lyrics), Alen Parson's Project, Bob Segar (just released a new album today), Beatles (Maxwell's Silver Hammer FTW!!!), Rollin Stones (esp. Black and Sympathy for the Devil), also like Depeche Mode, The Cure (older stuff), and on and on.
I guess the only thing I don't really get into is RAP and Country... that's the devils music... lol...

No it's not o.o
That is believed to belong to Rock N' Roll bands like Kiss, who are somewhat amusing to listen to.

Owchies. When tying old Bands names, please spell them right. They deserve that, and it's just something that I'm anal about.
Floyd
Led Zepplin
Alan Parsons Project
Rolling Stones

Some old bands like humblie pie, love, the zombies, and the kinks should really get more attention. They're just as good if not better then the more popular stuff like the stones or pink floyd.

You have to realise that Sonic Youth are one of the best bands out there due to persistence and ground-breaking sound considering the type of music and the time they played in. They toured for about 2 years without getting a large fanbase.
Also. The Mars Volta, new album is great - and I keep saying a new band everytime I post here, also The Fall Of Troy some great bands.

For ROCK music specifically, the first band to worry about is Tool. People only hate on them because they are so good and popular, and in these genres of music the fans tend to turn on any band that gets the least bit popular.
The others mention pale in comparisons of various levels below them.

Though I'm pretty sure that there is a lot of dislike amongst this forum for Tool, as the two music threads in the off-topic threads have indicated.
No one has backed anything up about Tool yet. People just pop in and say they're good, then never return.

It's probably the fact they have a catchy sound - I'm yet to hear them, and at the same time people feel out of the mainstream when listening to them because they're so "alternative".
This is just my assumption.

They have a slow, dreary sound with fairly powerful vocals. Not very catchy, in my opinion.

If the Dave Mathews Band could be counted as rock I would like to mention them. All the songs really relax me or put me in some sort of strong mood. Crush can make me forget all my problems for a good 7 minutes.

Well perhaps catchy is the wrong word, appealing maybe? But like others - I don't see what all the hype is about.

Wait, wait wait. You didn;t include Rush anywhere in your 6 bands.....and you included Kiss? They may have been popular(sheep effect ftw) and influenced their sheep greatly. The only time I've seen more fanboy/girls is on a Trekky Convention video. But they are horrible.
