Life after GW - any other MMos I mught enjoy?
Well, after 20 months of playing and absolutely loving this game, Anet has pissed this player off to the point of casting about about for another game to spend my hard-earned cash on.
Things I'd like in the new game:
- solid PvE story (I don't enjoy PvP)
- nice graphics (middish high-end rig here)
- challenging but not overly-complex (no RTS-type games)
- nice community
- monthly fee (ya, I'm resigned to that)
- devs that actually value your opinion
Any suggestions, along with the reasons, why you like the game, would be greatly appreciated.
Please, don't recommend City of Heros/Villians as Anerf will never see another nickel from me.
edit: It's been pointed out to me that Heros/Villians in not made by Anet, only published by the same publisher, NCSoft

EVE is a good game. Be prepared for a challenge though, it's not 'pick up n play' like GW is.
Story - Doesn't really have one TBH, you pretty much have to grind and grind (mining, looting etc) to get enough cash to buy a decent ship, then the real fun begins.
Community is very helpful. Be prepared to put in the hours though, it's not an easy game to get to grips with, many new players quit after 1 day.

There's some kind of new BSG space sim coming out called Beyond the Red Line or something. I don't have a link, but you can probably search and check it out. Might be nice to get in on something from the start again. I hope we see ya back sometime man.

I highly recommend the Gothic series from Piranha Bites. This game is a single player RPG and your rig sounds like it could take on the third installment of this game...the other two should be no problem. It follows the story of an exiled prisoner, a "nameless hero", who seeks to return to his homeland. The first Gothic game features the man inside of the prison colony, the second in the island where the colony is held, and the third in his homeland.
The game gets better with every sequel. Be warned, the series does have numerous bugs and glitches that might spoil your fun, but if you can get past those, this series is immensely enjoyable, very riveting, and features excellent open ended game play. The controls are easy to learn and the game features a realistic night and day cycle which adds extra flair. NPCs also react more realistically, i.e. you can't just barge into people's houses and take their stuff; if you do, the town guards will kill you.
Instead, you can seek out some cunning trainers hidden in a camp nearby to teach you some thief skills to sneak about, along with trainers that'll help you become a mage, archer, or swordsman. As you advance the plot, you can choose which faction to join. This means the plot will be different depending where you go, so there's major replay value in this game as well.
Be prepared for lots of plot. Especially Gothic III. There's plenty of action to go around though, trust me. Arena fights, beasts...the free roaming pace of the game makes exploring the rich world fun. If you go too far into the forest and you're too low level for instance, you could end up being killed by a shadowbeast. Finally, here are some screenshots:
The original Gothic.
Gothic II.
Gothic III.
Hope this helps!

Thx for the suggestions, I check them out.
Ya, I played Gothic 1 & 2, but haven't looked at 3 yet.
I've purchased a few games during my GW playing that are still, for the most part, unopened - Dungeon Siege 2, HL2 Episode 1, & a cpl others. I can give these a try now, as well.
I did play Oblivion for several hours b4 giving up on it, somehow it didn't grab me the way Morrowind did.
I'm not giving up on GW entirely at this point but will prob cut down on the amt of time I've been devoting to it.

Secondlife.com
It is free but only as a basic member. To be 'successful' in second life you need to spend real world $. One of the few games were spending real $ is encouraged.
To buy an island in-game you can spend from $300 to $1500 and yes people really do..

Sounds like you might enjoy Dungeons and Dragons online : stormreach.
A lot like GW, but less skill, and a lot more loot!
And its the mother of all RPG ( well, the pen and paer version anyways)
