Battlefield 2 or Battlefied 2142?
I can't decide :O. Both has nice big explodey whizz bangs but ones in the future and most stores sell them both at the same price (which doesn't help).
The main thing swinging it for BF2 at the moment is the special forces add on and those damn zip lines.
Anyone got both games want to give me a hint?

If you never play any of them before, then it doesn't matter really. I say BF2 first then 2142. Just to see how much they improved on the later. My advice would be upgrade your memory to 2gb, otherwise get used to the long loading screen.

i have alot more fun with the new one because its alot more simple. BF2 had more features (mainly because its older) but BF2142 is a bit more balanced due to having less weapon kits.
as much as i liked the zip lines, grappling hooks, and more diverse vehicles, BF2142 is a bit more fun and is still growing.

I like Battlefield 2 since you can load jeeps or tanks with C4 and blow it up as you drive into enemy bases!

2142. Lasers>Bullets. 'Nuf said.
It really depends on your taste: Do you want a realistic experience (BF2), or do you want a fantastic (2142) experience?
Pick with what seems more appealing to you. They're both great games.

Fred Kiwi, there's a new BF2 pack released: Battlefield2:Complete Collection. Get that, it will give you BF2, Armored Fury, EuroForce and Special Forces.
Oh, and I'm a pro sniper

If you want action imo go with 2142, if you want strategy go with a game called armed assault. Note this game is not for everyone but it is as close to been realistic as you have ever gotten in a combat sim thus far. The engine is great imo as the only limit to it, is the power of your pc. For instance there is no limit to MP CTI (capture the island) exept what your server can handle. In terms of co-op muiltiplayer the amount of AI you can have in a fight (war?) is again limited to your pc power (300 AI fight common) 70,000+ possible but not with todays hardware. The editor is on par with the likes of NWN toolset so the content will be never ending.
The game is pretty much made as realistic as possible and this can be a put off to some people because it is too slow and hard compared to the likes of CS, battlefield ect. The main game map is like that of oblivion where you can walk (fly in choppers, jets ect) for hours with no loading as you go.
This game does have bugs and quite afew, however if it counts the developers are very dedicated and will support it like the last game(OFP).
1.5 is out now, six will be soon also. The stock campain is also kinda crap but like i said, the power of the game is in the editing tools (mods which turn it into a RTS are already out, ect)
The US version is set to come out about May 1st, the UK, German ect have been out since around november. Here's a link to the trailer on You tube if anyone is interested..(quite old)
EDIT: Sorry that was the wrong trailer (just fan made) here is the GC one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqy1IBRxfKM
And here is a link to the U.S demo (new) if your further interested..(800 meg)
http://www.armedassault.com/dwnl_demo.html
I will also add you need good hardware to run this, i have 2gig of ram, 7900gt and can run it comfortably on Med settings (have to set view distance at 6km only though) Also a 6600gt and 1 gig ram which only manages it on low. (FPS for both at about 25-50). I will note though that 1.6 is said to improve performace abit.
So yeah imo if you want fast unrealistic and fun combat go with Battlefield if you want slow, realistic battles on a massive scale go with Arma (also great co-op).

BF2, when I asked my clan mates which they liked more (maybe like 10 or 11 of them) the majority said they didnt like the game that much, when I asked them to compare to BF2 they said they liked BF2 much more. I myself love BF2 and have never bought 2142 because I dont really enjoy paying for another mod (although I did by Special Forces). I say get BF2, more people playing it.

I have both, BF2 is a lot better.
1) BF2 doesn't make you grind as much for the unlocks you need to play effectively
2) 2142 comes with 8 maps not including the snack pack. BF2 comes with 20 to start with.
3) Titans in 2142 lag like a motherfarker
4) Aircraft in 2142 are weak sauce
2142 isn't really lasers and stuff, it's pretty similar tech-wise but with more gizmos to play with.
