Ok, to start things off...
What is generally regarded as the limiting factor for marine phytoplankton growth and standing crop? Explain similarities or differences vs. freshwater
and for bonus fun...
Assume that you have separate FISH probes to each of the following: marine “Oxyphototroph” clade, Verrumicrobia phylum, candidate phylum OP11, candidate phylum “Marine Group A”, Pelagibacter clade (=SAR11 clade) and cold-temperature marine Crenarchaeotes. Pick 3 of these probes and say what (if anything) you’d know about how prokaryotes in the real world that hybridized positively with that probe made a living. For each of the groups that you’ve selected state whether, based on current knowledge of the group, probes that divided the group up into subgroups would provide more information on the metabolism of a hybridizing bacterium.
