I was more of a friend with most of my teachers than a student, but I don't remember ever being hit on by them... Infact, I was the only student in my acting class without a crush on my teacher, probably because I had her 5 years in a row she just seemed like more of a mother to me than my real mom.
All of my dude teachers were just flat out awesome sauces, they sneek into the school on off days with beer and play Halo on a projector screen, nerds to the extreme. Heh, my Geo-teacher always skipped school to go fishing.
I have never seen it myself, but I heard rumors of a teacher and student dating in my school two years ago, I don't really know the whole story, I was too busy learning to keep up with gossip... Just another reason I was hated so much.

A few years ago, one of the librarians at my school got caught sleeping with a student. Well, I just found out a few minutes ago that my driver's ed. teacher was on the news for he too was doing sexual favors with a student. What has gotten into teachers? I feel so disgusted now...
Well, that's all. Later.

Ok. What I noticed is that everyone is pointing fingers at the teachers. Now, you ( the OP ) specifically said they were caught sleeping together. Doesn't that mean the student is cooperating? If not, it'd be rape, which is something totally different. Sure, the teachers are older and wiser, but the student is anything but innocent.
Ever looked at it that way?

Child molestation cases for underage pubescent children, particularly in young males, are probably the most underreported type of sexual crime. Most likely, regardless of the school you're going to, it's happening currently.
Whether the molestor is male or female, for male students, it's not likely to be reported. Having been molested by a man is not something most men, young or old, want to have known, and being molested by a woman is something few men can afford to report. Rape is rape, but if it's a man being raped by a woman, they're expected to enjoy it (well, short of certain situations, but I'll not go into that), and the law and society tends to be rather unforgiving otherwise. A man who doesn't enjoy sex with any 'attractive' woman, especially a younger one, is likely to be labeled as 'gay.' The sad thing is, counseling services for men molested by women are next to non-existant.
For female students, as with all female rape victims, they have to worry about being blamed for what happened to them, either directly, or indirectly. I know many people, though possibly because of the state I live in (won't go into it), that wouldn't consider a relationship with a girl who was known to be 'impure', whether she chose it, or was forced into it, and even less that want to 'put up with' the associated 'mental and emotional baggage' of being a rape victim. School-age students are well known for not being particularly forgiving of things, regardless of whose fault they are.
For the record, as well, though it's come into common usage to mean anyone sexually attracted to someone below the age of consent, the label of pedophile has an important distinction that shouldn't be forgotten; Pedophiles are adult, or at least 16 years of age and 5 years older than the child, individuals who are attracted to prepubescent, or peripubescent (very close to the age of puberty) children. These children have little to no developement of their secondary sex characteristics. Interestingly, because of this, pedophiles are more likely to molest individuals of either gender, though the myth of homosexuals being more likely to be pedophiles is just that; A myth. The primary perpetrators of sexual abuse against children by adults are performed by heterosexual males against prepubescent girls.
Some criticise this, as unreported sexual abuse against children performed by teachers generally involve instances of female teachers, but one has to keep in mind that members of the teaching profession in general are predominantly female.
To summarise; 40 year old man who finds a sexually developed 15 year old girl attractive is not a pedophile, medically. Creepy, perhaps, and a sexual predator still if he acts on it, but not a pedophile. Ephebophillia is the term for exclusive attraction to pubescent adolescents, but it does not apply to sexual attraction to pubescent adolescents in general, which isn't normally considered 'deviant' or 'pathological' in and of itself.
