What do you think of art? Is it a supreme expression of the human imagination or is it just an egotistical foray into one's own belief of superiority in a given field? Is art truly meant to portray deep emotion or is it just drivel produced for profit and esteem?

I'll be giving my input on this later, if I see an actual discussion will be taking place.

I was gonna make some dumb post about my experiences with music and other forms of artistic expression, but the guy above me pretty much hit the nail on the head.

EDIT: Meh, I'll add something possibly semi-useful for a discussion. Art is what you make of it; I try to feel it as much as possible, and as such I occasionally have an "experience" of some sort if I'm able to connect with it. On the other hand, I have friends who are the "oh, that's kinda cool" type and wouldn't have it any other way.

Art is simply something thats designed to make to think. the specific responce varies from person to person, but the general idea is to make others think about things in general or about something specific.

Art is in the eye of the beholder, since everyone may view the same piece of "art" differently. Cubism is called art, but I fail to understand why; yet photographs (by the likes of Wyeth, for instance) I find to be appealing. Some would argue that line-drawings like comic strips are not art, but lots of those same people have Nagel prints on their walls, and call them art. It's all up to the individual.
