Pardon the pun, buf DEFCON is a complete blast. I've played it since release (whenever I can find time to, anyway). If you've ever seen the 80's flick WarGames (w/ Matthew Broderick) it's kinda like the "simulation" that the WOPR/Joshua runs near the end of that movie.
Basically, Aera, the premise is that each player controls a superpower that slowly goes from DEFCON 5 (the US DEFense CONdition - indicates the level of war that exists for that country - other nations may be different) to DEFCON 1 - full-on nuclear war. Once DEFCON 1 is reached, each nation may launch their missiles at the other nations. The "winner" is whoever loses the least people.
It's a kind of grim fun, if you are the type to consider the real life implications of it, but as far as games go, it's a fun, short, simple strategy game.
