They're probably just coming into your home to escape the coming Winter. Most species found in the US (with a few obvious exceptions) are completely harmless to humans. As long as you don't mess with them, they'll probably just skitter off to some remote place in the house and you'll never see them again.

Don't really know what to tell you about being afraid of them, since I'm not, but good luck if you find something.

EDIT: Just noticed your location is England. Sorry. XP

Stop being pussies, just catch em and throw em outside. I never get the deal with ppl being scared, just because someone says they're scary doesn't mean they are :/
I don't think having one fear makes me a pussy. I'm not afraid of anything else. That means: knife to throat, gun to my head, snakes, flying, water, mean people anything at all that you can think of, I'm not afraid of it. So I don't see that your comment is justified.

These things are really big, I live by a field. They don't seem to be scared, they move really fast and they don't hide until you try to catch them. They walk around (or jump) the room. I hate how they riggle and crap, bleh... Sometimes I'm lucky if I can get close enough to put something ontop of them.

Try this:
http://www.spidatrap.com/Home/

Or one of those sensor thing that will get rid of any spiders in your room/house. And you're right some of them are freaking huge!

Woo, thank you. I will favourite that site and maybe buy some, sometime . I have been keeping my window shut at all times, but it means my PC over heats and most of all I don't get enough oxygen so I start to go a bit crazy (I'm not joking).

Hopefully I can open the window again with this device .

They might be getting in other ways. I can't really make any conclusions because I don't know if you live in a house, a dorm or a flat, but it's possible they're coming in through cracks in the foundation, the attic/basement/cellar/etc, or they're fresh babies from eggs laid previously in the year. Like I said...¯\(º_o)/¯

Yeah I used to live in a student house and one of room in the house was like a spider's den. It's got so bad that we had to bring in the exterminator lol. Turn out the underfloor was a nest of some sort. Gimme the creep just thinking about it.

My house is not only infected with spiders, but centipedes, as well. While most of the time they're in the basement - a problem since my damned computer's down there - they do like to migrate once in a while up to the main floor.

What weapon could one use that would not only keep you a good safe distance, but also guaruntee a nice kill? Look no further than this:

A Swiffer® (without the wetcloth, of course.)

You see, the head of the Swiffer® will always be parallel with what ever surface you slide or ram it into, so you can kill from pretty much any angle. What I do is I spot the prey, slam the Swiffer® on 'em, the slide it so the nasty beasty smears. They have a pretty irritating exoskeleton, so just mashing them doesn't always work. So just mash and smear, and it's a guarunteed dead bug.

Sure, it's gross - but amazingly effective. And if you want to clean up the mess, you have the perfect tool right in your hands!

me I'm more up close and personal....If they don't go into the jar so I can let them go outside I'll just end it quick and easy /steel toe work boot gets them every time. I guess growing up around scorpions, tarantulas, and snakes kinda takes the fear away.

The only thing that really freaks me out when I'm not expecting them are flying roaches. Nothing like having one fly away as your trying to squash it.

It's funny how my relatives back in Taiwan is taking care of a spider right nowl. It all started when they found a small spider in the book room. Slowly, the spider turned bigger and bigger until it is size of a baseball. My dad actually asked my uncle why they don't kill it or at least move it out the house. He said that it sorta become their family pet. Kind of creepy to have a baseball size spider in the house!!

That hurted alot

But with some bandage and some medicine, you wont feel it anymore

Edit: Did you know on a year time, a human eats 2 or 3 spiders in their sleep?
