I'd say Eragon like a lot of others are saying, if it wasn't such a frickin' horrible book. I suppose it's enjoyable in a sense though; It's so unbelievably bad, it captivates you. Although, I suppose this forum isn't the place for that.
Recently, I've been enjoying George R. R. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice series. That guy really knows how to write. He manages many more plots and characters within the story than probably any author I've ever read, and on top of that, makes it look easy. Only read the first 3 books so far, so I've yet to see if he can keep it going.

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King.
Roland Deschain of Gilead is one of the best main character even created.

The ending really depressed me for that series.
Spoiler.
Roland the most badass character ever - more badass than Clint Eastwood or Master Chief or Chuck Norris, gets to repeat his fate until he does it differently. Near the ending Stephen King also insults the reader for wanting to read the end. The Crimson King fight was also pretty anti - climactic.

The Wind on Fire trilogy by William Nicholson. That rocked
His Hark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. Probably my favourite.
Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams. Those are just awesome! But the movie sucked so bady it's almost like they're making fun of the author ><

I remember reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne and being just awed by the description of the things they saw and did while in the Nautilus.
Other books I've read that i remember enjoying greatly where 1984, Catcher In The Rye, The Great Gatsby, Lord of The Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, the Iliad, Faulkner's As I Lay Dying and although it was a play and not a book, Hamlet.

Enjoyed that trilogy a lot.
Also
Angel and Demon : Dan Brown, liked it mroe the The Davince Code
There are a few more, but these are the main one's

I'd put that in my top ten.
I'd be tempted put Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy close to the top - I've never known a series of books to appeal so well to all ages.
