Blizzards next MMO
Those crazy people at Blizzard are at it again. As I was searching through IGN, I came upon this tidbit of information.

Reported today by Wired's Game|Life blog, the assurance is music to the ears of MMO junkies jonesing for a new drug from the online gaming world's biggest brand.
In response to questions on the WoW boards about a recent job posting, Blizzard community rep Drysc confirmed that the company "an unannounced next-gen MMO." Anticipating the inevitable turn the thread would take, Drysc adds, "and that doesn't mean it's an expansion for World of Warcraft either."
In January, IGN reported that Blizzard (now part of the recently-formed Activision Blizzard) had plans for a new MMO and that it would not be based on WoW or anything too similar to the company's past projects.
Fears that the company's recent merger with Activision would lead to an endless churn of WoW clones would appear to be unfounded. A Blizzard rep was unavailable for immediate comment.

After WoW I thought they would try to work on a Starcraft MMO. However, it seems that this project will not relate to their past projects. I wonder what it could be.

Don't know why they'd want to make a new MMO when their current one is beyond successful.

Thats simple, even thought the WoW franchise was is successful it's hit a peak and has begun a small but steady downturn of losing customers.
I would expect the next MMO to be World of StarCraft. Where you can play either Protoss, Terran, or Zerg in a world hopping game of survival, endless conflict and adventure.
Terran Classes
Marine
Medic
Ghost
Protoss Classes
Zealot
Templar
Dark Templar
Zerg Classes
Zergling
Hydrolisk
Evolved Hybrid
The other idea would be a MMO universe based upon Mass Effect since they have joined with Activision.

If anything I'd say the population of WoW is increasing, not decreasing. With WotLK coming out, I'm sure even more of the older players that quit will try it out, which is even more players. Although I'm sure WoW will lose a lot of players if they do what ANet did and pretty much forget about WoW and focus directly on this new MMO.
A MMO universe based on Mass Effect would be pretty cool.

I was secretly hoping for a Diablo MMO.
One that doesn't use the keyboard...just clicking. And has imbalanced equipment that uses impossibly rare crafting pieces (I'm looking at you, Zod rune. 0.0000476% droprate, wtf.) Maybe add in some open ganking, so high level characters can spend time making lowbies miserable. Oh, and lest we forget: an endgame that entails running the same two bosses over and over until you want to scream, with a skill setup exactly like every other person out there.
Yeah. That's what I want in a game.

Blizzard has a whole team dedicated to nothing but WoW. They won't work on Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, nothing but WoW. If anything they pull people away from other projects to work on WoW. But the reason they are working on a new one is that it took them five years to make WoW. Figure they learned a few tricks along the way, and they have at least a year on the new project, the new MMO might be out in another three years. Always thinking ahead and if it is a Starcraft or Diablo MMO, they will probably not lose a lot of WoW customers, but gained a boat full of new customers for the next game (with probably some crossover).
I really hope that it won't be a Diablo MMO, as I don't want to pay monthly to play a game, but I love Diablo so much that I would make an exception. I don't see how it could be a Starcraft MMO either, Starcraft is about fighting across the entire galaxy and to limit it to just one world would really condense it. That tells me it is probably a Diablo title, but I am hoping it is something new (and that they take the Starcraft 2 team and put them to work on D3, to be released in 2015 probably).

Sounds like World of Starcraft. Maybe they'll actually manage to turn the Sci-Fi MMO genre around.

It'd be pretty cool to see how Zerg are implemented as a playbale race, I'll admit.
