Family problems.
I'm basically using the internet to get a random poll of as many random people as possible to tell me if I am right or not.
My brother and the mother of his child (they are not married) are having problems and because of this it is looking like I am not going to be able to see my nephew over Christmas break. I don't get to see him very often throughout the year being a college student and all, but would I be wrong for going to visit her family for a few days without my brother? I really don't care what kind of problems they are having, I just want to see my nephew over break more than anything in the world.
Would I be wrong for going to see my nephew without my brother while he and his baby's momma are having problems?

No. Your just trying to be a good uncle. That's what families are for right? Taking care of each other.
If your going to go, bring presents to ease off the weirdness of seeing your nephew without your brother.
Good luck.

Here's my opinion :
You won't be wrong, it's your nephew.
But if you are going to her family's house, I hope that they like you, because if they don't, they may find your presence strange/disrespectful.
Also, like Blizzard. said, bring presents.

If you don't have a problem with your nephew's mother, go see your nephew. Just because your brother is fighting with her doesn't mean you can't go see your nephew. But like the others said, presents are a good idea in case they have a bitter opinion of you too.
It's not like you're gonna go have an affair with her.

Wow, that can end up in a really awkward situation.
I'd only go if they like you...
Bring a present too.

How well do you know the family of your nephew's mother. If you hardly know them don't go, it will lead to lots of awkward moments.

Be prepared for a heavy backlash from your brother and the rest of your immediate family. Polish up your diplomatic skills.

If you're confident that you're not going to feel awkward being around just her family, I'd say go for it. You're being a really good uncle by doing so and if your brother objects, well I would think he would understand.

Hi Joker...
I'm very sorry for you and your family, especially your brother. The prospect of not seeing his son for Christmas must be very difficult for him. Do you really think either parent is so immature they'd let their problems intefere with the child's best interest? It's in the child's best interest to get as much love from as many people as possible, especially the parents.
Have you talked to your brother yet about whether or not he plans to visit his son? Maybe get a motel room nearby? Maybe both of you could go? It would be wonderful if you could be there as support for your brother... not in the context of their fight... but in the sense of comraderie.

Tell either your brother or your nephew's mother that you really want to see him. Do not go without asking them, it wouldn't be welcomed.
