I wouldn't call him underrated, but fairly unknown, City and Colour. Definitely worth checking out.

Anyway, the Beatles, obviously, because they're impossible to overrate. Basically, we wouldn't have music today if it wasn't for them.

The Beatles were just commercialy successful, of course they were brilliant muscians but in the long run they were the right people in the right place at the right time. The Beatles were formed from influences such as Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters so although the Beatles were marketed enough to make them global superstars they wouldn't have exsisted without the old blues muscians.
Velvet Revolver are only good because of the GnR members, which is most of the band I know but without Axl Rose they dont have the same appeal, yes Axl has his faults but you cant deny him being a talented guy and the Velvet Revolver lead guy is a tard.

They are overrated imo. All songs seem to be the same, and the vocals are barely present, it fades into the background

Smashing Pumpkins are the greatest band ever to walk this earth (in my humble opinion) and they get almost no air time nowadays. I guess they had their run in the 90's, but still, could I hear Cherub Rock somewhere other than my iPod?
Note: The game Rockband got a huge plus when I learned it has Cherub Rock!

65daysofstatic, I think they're amazing but I've only found a few people who listen to them.
What's with all these people mentioning bands with major record deals who are known (even if just by name) worldwide?

I **LOVE** seeing the metal love here. As such, I'll say Opeth is a hugely underrated band.
As for Nickelback, I threw up in my mouth. I want to kill them and all who adore them.

Oh and Vitis I don't know if you'd consider Opeth underrated..haha. Amorphis and Bathory probably aren't either, but barely anyone in America that I know of knows who Windir is.
I'd also say the Barlow years of Iced Earth but I know that's a lie, so many people love that time..

Congratulations, my good sir. You are officially awesome. Tool is probably my favorite band, with close runner-ups of Slipknot and Static-X.
Imo, Tool isn't underrated. Multi-platinum for all five albums they've put out (Discluding the Salival a couple years back) and pretty damn popular where I live.
Slipknot, is of course, not underrated. They're way too mainstream to be underrated.
Static-X, though one of my favorite bands, I admit don't really have an appealing sound, so I don't give them too much credit.
Honestly, of the stuff I listen to, most of it is either mainstream, or isn't mainstream for a good reason. Nothing, imo, of what I listen to is underrated.
