So, I'd just spent 25 minutes working on a fairly deep criticism of WoW, Blizzard, Anet, the people on this forum, the state of gaming, e-sports, real sports and tournament structures throughout history when it hit me...
This is not the place for that discussion - since very little of it had any relation to Guild Wars (mostly illustrative comparisons), and none of it was a discussion of the game. If anything this entire thread belongs in the trash heap or the OT forum.
Edit: That said, I played WoW for a long time (~2.5 years) and found it to be a good game, roughly on par with Guild Wars in terms of enjoyability. However, neither is enjoyable enough to justify a monthly payment from me - but one charges a monthly payment. So, I play GW now.

Exactly. There is no evidence when it comes to an opinion. But I DO love how people act as if GW has never copied anything and all their ideas are fresh. Bravo, you ineducated whiners! Keep up the good show!

Hey Blizzard already had this tourney system w/ prizes in Wc3 TFT so you cant say they snagged this concept from Anet.

All I know is that GW costs nothing per month to play, and WoW is $15/month. Considering that fee, it seems off that there isn't more in the way of tournaments, specifically ones that don't require an additional charge to enter.
As to WoW vs GW, it's all a matter of preference. I've played WoW, but I found it to be more "old school" - having to run (or ride) everywhere, strict lines between the professions/classes, racial traits - all things I'm glad aren't in GW. OTOH, it does give you a stronger feeling of being in a "real world".

Imagine if Tolkien finished The Lord of the Rings when Sam and Frodo get to Mordor.
Yargh! What's next?

I don't think these tourny systems are comparable... WC3 wasn't an MMORPG. And saying they took it from WC3 would eventually cause someone to note that the first ever tournament of something thousands of years ago, and those people REALLY deserve the credit for the idea.. -.-

It's nice to see companies actually support their games. Anyone who plays a game from activision knows what I'm talking about.

If i prefer to play GW over WoW even though WoW may have more sales / active players / whatever, then why would i say WoW is better?
Here, we're talking "better" as in what appeals to that person more. Someone can say "WoW sucks" and you can respond with something like "but WoW has 3mil subscribers gaaawd!!" (don't quote me on the figure...). They have a valid opinion that GW is better if they simply like to play it more.
Sure there are some ignorant people that are talking financial success when they say "GW > all!!1!", but that's something else entirely.

Agree.
Makes me wonder why some obviously pro WoW players here insist on trolling a GW forum. Dont you have your own board to wallow in? we dont care what you think.

I wasn't even touching the financial success.
If you are going to say "GW is superior" or "WoW is crap," you might as well have a valid reason.

On a sidenote, i think they should stay with SC2 and shouldn't be messing around with WoW when it comes to e-sports.
But whatever if you have enought money for marketing, anything will get into e-sports these days.*cought*Fury*cought*
And if they got one thing its money and marketing, so guess it will be a great success...

There is one. I think that pikachu owner brat says it a lot:
"I choose you".
If I choose a game over others, that game is better than others.
Simple as the mechanism of pot-in-pot refrigerator (namely a Spanish botijo XD).
Since I'm Aries, I usually think that I'm right, and since I'm Rooster, It's usually true that I'm right, XDDD.
Just people's choices, XD.

I'll say one thing though, Anet at least still keeps their tournaments free. Blizzard, on the other hand, despite their subscription fees and their larger financial base is still charging for the ones their hosting. Shows how much Blizzard really cares.

I'm not sure how that's related to "caring."
If ArenaNet charged an entry fee for tournements, no one would play competitively and the game would die.
No one would enter the WoW tournment unless they thought they had a shot at winning. It's an idiocy filter. (just like the monthly fee, ahem.)
Also, before anyone mentions it, no, the article on WoW causing a divorice is false.

Another "let bash that more famous game so that we can feel better about ourselves and the game we play" thread?
Let me get my popcorn.
Seriously though, this is a GW fansite & forum. What's the point bringing WoW's news to it? Should I go over to WoW's forum and post about Canthan New Year's failure too? I doubt they'd even care to comment.

WoW isn't the only game that causes relational distress.
