Plastic model kits would be in a sub-category classified under toys, but yet are not toys because they can't be played with. Most people build models for display purposes.

Nostalgia's creeping over me. A big fad in 6th grade was to build Gundam Wing models and battle them. Man, those were the days. I tore everyone up with my Vayeate!
