Master Knightfall just how many people do you want to be abused, hurt and killed?
That's what will happen if this bill is passed, the world is not full of nice people and many of them find their way to the Internet.

I do live in CA and even I eventually expect this kind of law to be purposed soon here. The fact that it came from a republican in middle town America gives rise to the concerns I have. It's middle America that keeps the nation somewhat balanced. This region is one of the most conservative area's in the Union and to have it go in this direction should give rise for more law makers with socialist big government views to take this political position openly. The way you enforce it is to attack the host web site owners themselves. If that happens here in the states you can see it happening else ware down the road. I expect this legislation to fail however I also see it opening the door for more legislation, after a good marketing campaign from the socialist bias media outlets here in the states. Remember it was only 20 years ago that the idea of tracking an individuals purchases was absolutely absurd as it gets rid of the freedom of purchase privacy. Now it's an accepted form of tracking method with privacy being thrown out the window. We (the government) know what you buy and when you bought it, whereas before (20 years ago) it was never tracked.

I don't think anyone is dumb enough to think a law like that would actually pass.
He just wants to be able to add "I protect kids on the internet" to his slogan next time he runs for office.

Especially if we all knew where he lived. Nothing stops troll as much as fear of being discovered IRL and sucker punched by random people.

And that is THE problem. Any anti-anonymity will only hurt people that it is supposed to protect.
Really, you are not getting anything worth it from enforced lack of anonymity. Even knightfail

It would suck to be American if that happened. The U.S. Constitution has no bearing on other parts of the world so that means that everyone else would retain their anonymity and we'd be able to identify every single American.
We'd know your details whereas you'd be disguised behind Avatars. That's fair?

re subject
my main concern having your name and address posted would be the fact that it opens the door for not just cyber criminals but any one.
Whats to stop crims coming around going through your real mail after getting your address from some site that you have posted on. Or if you post a personal view that some one dissagrees with whats to stop them comming around to your real address and going Postal on you and your faimly.

Yeah, by making them provide their address on the internet. That'll keep kids real safe. Then all the pervs and internet stalkers could find anyone they'd like! I agree, though; no one is dumb enough to actually pass this.

Yep, they can.
And thou they are unlikely to do that. Too much work, too much commitment, too dangerous, not enough fun.
Some local blogger (quite an asshole) was open with his personal info. Some kids (also assholes) trolled him. One day, he was recognized in tube by one of trolling gang which was stupid enough to approach him - he didn't have chance to finish sentence as blogger reacted pretty violently when it became clear to who he is talking to.
There were some half hearted attempts to sue him, but it only lead to complete ridicule of that "gang".
It also lead to brand new meaning of verb "blog" in here. hehe. Good times.

This just about sums it up. Seriously... my first thought when i first heard about this was "How old is this guy?". Not to mention if this guy's mildly retarded, (Just saying IF this ever happened like this guy expects it to be, it clearly will not though, i can't think of the word right now) because this would change more than the kids here who just heard about 4chan and think it's the only "anonymous" board on the internet and think it's coolest thing in the world to spew meme's on guru. It's not, because guru is anonymous too, as well as... i'm going to say 99% of boards the internet. Just because you post with a registered username does not make it truly anonymous, because nobody here knows my real name or address. That is what real anonymity is after all.
This is such a horrible idea, i'd be here for days if i were to explain why every single aspect of this idea is BAD.

The first amendment gives you the right to free speech not anonymous speech. Come on people take responsibility for what you type :P
Seriously this could never be enforced on a state level. Not unless Kentucky plans on removing themselves from the internet and starting up their own "mini-net." You can't stop people from other areas of the country and the world from posting anonymously. Not to mention such a law would have no jurisdiction in any other state or country. How would they plan on fining a company based in London? Or even California for that matter. Do they expect every online forum to now ask "Are you a resident of Kentucky?" when a new member goes to register? The internet is too big and widespread to regulate in such a way.

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee
But seriously, somebody needs to sit this guy down and have a talk with him.
"Listen buddy, you see your son over there? Yea, just imagine every single pedophile in the world knowing his full name and address? Yea. Do you still want to pass this? Okay, I'm glad we had this discussion."

I know this is off topic but Cale Roughstar I just saw your avatar and I immediately spat cornflakes all over my keyboard... I LOVE YOUR AVATAR HAHA
The guy who proposed this law, has he read this thread yet? Seems that it has a few points that he hasn't thought up yet.

That's kinda what I fear. We have enough people wanting to kick other people's asses, let's not make it real, shall we?
I've seen cases where people really wanted to meet up and fight. I'm serious. Now, with this, someone can track you down and do it without you even wanting it. Sure most people back off, but fall THE guy mad enough to do it, and see what happens. I've recieved death threats, if my address had published I'm sure the guy was gonna get it, fly here and try to fight me. He was that mad.

Too funny. No something like this would never get passed. There's too many questions and variables. i.e. Servers are in US, but owner of site is not? Americans visiting a foreign site must use their real name? Why would a site owner be the privliged one to gather names and addresses? And what's to stop said owner from selling the information? Or if your site is hacked into (because we all know that it can NEVER happen right?) what happens to those gathering all those names and addresses now? What about households who share a computer? If I'm logged into my dad's account posting as him do the same laws apply since technically I'm giving my identity as false? It's ridiculous.

What did you do? Talk to a bible-thumper?
This Kentuckian obviously has thought nothing through and this bill will never get passed because of all the reasons stated above, and because of the ludicrous amount of public, both national and international, that it would create. Somebody really needs to give this guy a good talking to.
