Pennywise rates up there.

The Grudge creeps the shit out of me.... The way she moves, and the noise. And comes through mirrors.... AHHHH!!! Japanese horror in general is just plain creepy (The Ring, One Missed Call, The Grudge)

Things that creep me out most are things that are not gory or gross, but plain and just creepy down to the core of your soul. The Grudge fits that bill. She is plain and not gross. Just disturbing beyond all reason.

I agree, whole heartedly.
Most American//European writers can't seem to 'scare' anybody without blood. Eli Roth? (might I add, is also a huge wh*re.) Dario Argento? Clive Barker? George A Romero?

Sh*t, they know they can't too, thats why they remake all the old Japanese films.

As I understand it Eli Roth is going to remake 'Ichi the Killer'?

I wholeheartedly agree. If that movement freaks you out, check out Silent hill as well. Also The Messengers.

If you want to see gore that's artistic, watch Event Horizon. There's a scene where the guy gets hit with a fast forward vision of hell. Lasts less than a minute. Do a frame by frame on the dvd if you can. Amazing in a bondage blood kind of way. They spent weeks getting the footage for that 60 secs of film.

Ignoring Event Horizon was awful.
It scared the crap out of me when I was 11 years old because I have a phobia about eye injuries, but I watched it again like.. a year or two ago, and I couldn't take it seriously, at all. Plus, the fact it's directed by Paul Anderson, who gave us such theatrical GEMS as Resident Evil, and the first Alien vs Predator. *gag.*

Not even Sam Neil could save that film.

Silent Hill was good, if you put the film on MUTE. Everytime the lead actress speaks, I was reminded of her obnoxious character in Pitch Black, who was just put in different clothes for this movie. The lead actress aside, Silent Hill was very pleasing. (I'd still rather play the games though..)

I strongly recommend Jacobs Ladder. For those who don't know, it heavily influenced the Silent Hill games.
(Side note; Tim Robbins is just a scary dude to begin with. He happens to be the leading role.)

Oh yeah, I agree that Event Horizon wasn't all that scary, and I ADORE Sam Neil...even Morpheus couldn't save it with all his cool factor lol. I was just talking about that 1 scene with the hell flash. Frame by frame it, the shots are amazing. I liked the idea behind it alot, but they lost it a bit.

Same with In the Mouth of Madness, another Sam Neil flick. The idea was great (popular belief shaping reality) but the effects/production/main female actress bit it.

Silent Hill I was recommending because the movement style from the Grudge freaked him out.

Hell yes, Jacob's Ladder as mind bender movie, love it

Also, for beautiful gross, try 13 Ghosts. OK scary, gorgeous stuff and one of the main chars is the guy who played Cereal Killer in Hackers (forget is name) who cracks me up.

Can you tell I love scary movies lol?

Matthew Lillard. (Also of SLC Punk fame.)

13 Ghosts was alright, nothing like the original, but that's a good thing as the orignal is from like.. 1960. (And boring as piss. Much like house on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price.) Old Horror movies aren't so much scary as they are hilariously bad.

Wes Cravens Wishmaster had it's points too, though not an outwardly spectacular franchise. The character design of Djinn was interesting to say the least.

Don't hate on Vincent Price. He had the creepiest voice EVER. That man was genius.

I'm not hating on Vincent price. I'm wearing a shirt with his face on it as we speak. B horror and suspense flicks will always have a special place in my heart. I'm just saying even he had a lemon or two in his day, House on Haunted Hill was one of them.

Pennywise is a nightmare ( I loved that film, the end where he was a big spider thing totally ruined it for me, I'll prolly buy the book at some point in the hope the ending isnt so lame), I think Sadako & the Grudge family would give him a run for his money

Ps. The bit where Stan (I think) went into the house and Pennywise in alternate form was pretty damn scary (creeping down the stairs, closer and CLOSER LOL)

*Sorry I didn't read replies, I instantly replied to the OP cos of the clown that spends cash in clever ways *

PPS. That monster thing coming out the TV (Ringu) I think was first done in Demons 2 (Dario Argento if I remember), and Killer Clowns loool, I'm a proud owner of that, I miss films like that

There are 2 puppetmasters films, 1 is with Donald Sutherland about aliens taking over (very similar to bodysnatchers) the other is with lil scary puppets, one with a deathmask who cuts, another with a drill for a head, and a leach spewing female doll

I'm a big fan of horror movies

Zombies FTW looooool

anyone remember blaine the mono, the tick-tock man, and the crimson king from the dark tower series? *shudder*
blaine is a close second to pennywise.

House on Haunted Hill scared the piss out of me for a gory American horror movie. Return to House on Haunted Hill was amusing (I have the Blu Ray version where you can pick the way things go) I kill everyone as fast as possible. I think I made the movie end in like 50 minutes. LOL.

One of the things about Stephen King's writing that I find the most intriguing in his books but the most frustrating when they're made into movies is the way that he interweaves themes and characterss from his other books. They're mostly (not all) connected back to The Dark Tower Series. The whole spider thing in IT has to do more with that villain in other books than it does in IT and to really understand it you have to have read The Dark Tower books. Out of context, it ruins the movie, I agree. In context, it's fantastic, IMO.

Thanks Fluffi, I'll be sure to check em out, I've not read many Stephen King books (off the top of my head I think only Nightmares and Dreamscapes & Needful Things) are his only books I've read, enjoyed both, I been trying to get Skeleton Crew, I heard it has the story from Creepshow 2 (The Raft).

I read a lotta James Herbert and Hp Lovecraft books, Poe as well, Poe and Lovecraft takes a bit of getting used to after reading more modern books, but when you get into (especially Lovecraft) they are creepy as hell
