Which PS3 to buy
Calling Rahja!!!
So I'm buying a PS3.
Here's is my story:
My 360 is still going to be my gaming console
I'm buying a PS3 just to convert it into a media center, since it is the cheapest blue ray player on the market. (Don't like the games on the PS3, maybe I'll pick up Guns of the Patriots, and that's it)
So which type of PS3 to buy??

If you're gonna get MGS4 anyway just get the bundle pack if you can find it.

Hi, you have reached the Rahja Helpline. For English, Press 1. For advice on Doomsday, please stay on the line and a representative will be with you shortly.
Well, if you are just going for a media center, definitely the 40GB my man.
Reasoning? Cheap, works like a charm, and you can upgrade any PS3 harddrive without voiding warranties (Sony actually tells you how to do it).
Oh, and MGS4 is gorgeous. Killzone2 is also a game to get when it comes out. Also, get Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on the PS3. It was developed for it, and the physics systems run smoother on it because of the Cell. Gran Turismo 5 is jaw dropping gorgeous if you like simulator games.
So, buy this:

and this:

and if you really want it to be a media center:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16879261053
and finally this:

Boom, you have a 160GB PS3 ready to take on all the media you can throw at it. Also, the PS3 has a great streaming protocol if you have a wireless network. It supports a lot of different formats, and the transfer rates are great if your signal strength is prime (100%) Use Windows Media Player 11 to share media to the PS3 (easiest and cheapest to setup for a media server situation unless you have a dedicated system)
However, I was the same as you when I got the PS3. Give it a month or two, and your 360 will soon say "Boo hoo...." I love rhyme.
Also what type of HDTV do you have? Post a model number pls. Do you have an AV Receiver that supports 1080p HDMI decoding (not passthrough!!!)? Good surround sound speaker system? The PS3 supports DTS Master Audio (the best you can get) in 7.1, full 1080p 24-30fps picture, HDMI Pure White and Full Black technology, and HDMI 1.3. Nothing beats Blu Ray, period.

There is a rumor that they will be upgrading the 40gig with BC via a downloadable update. And it's the cheapest, I have one.
BTW - MGS4 is the most epic game I have ever played. Easily in my top 10 games of all time. I was stunned by how awesome it was.

I dare you to resist Uncharted: Drakes Fortune once you have that lovely black box sitting there.

Ah yeah PS3 HD upgrade, I heard about that. Another reason not to buy anything more than 40gb version. Talking about PS3 HD, do most if not all ps3 games have faster loading time because of the software installation? GTA4 have almost no loading time when compare to 360 counterpart, so I'm just wonder.
OT here, I still have my mod ps2 with 80gb HD installed. You can upload ps2 & 1 game on to the HD and the console will play the game without the need for any dvd or cd with zero load time. Which is ace in my book.

I want your PS3. I still get noticeable loading times in GTA 4.

Yeh, GTA4 still has noticeable loading times, but they are indeed shorter on the PS3 version thanks to file allocation to the HDD. The upgradeable HDD is the biggest draw for the PS3.

lol @ Loki. You can't, cus I dont have a PS3. I was comparing the 360 version which I have to a PS3 version that my friend has, and noticed the faster loading speed.
I might treat myself to a ps3 next month then, to cheer myself up a bit. My new apartment is still a mess, boxes are still everywhere. PS3 is region free as well, right?

No, it has 3 regions. Americas, Euro, Asia. Sadly, that is Blu Ray in general. You can't have it all. (Although, I don't know about games. Blu Ray movies are regioned, but maybe not the games)

Ok just order a PS3-MGS 4 boxset from GAME last night, I'll pick in up next week. The 40gb version can't play any ps2 games but will play ps1 games just fine, no biggie. The big plus is that PS3 games are region free but the blue ray movies are not. Again no biggie and this mean I can import all of those weird and wonderful games from Japan without having to mod my console.

I really do recommend Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and Ratchet and Clank Future to anyone with a PS3. Both are fantastic games.
