Flagship Studios bites the dust...
http://kotaku.com/5024558/flagship-s...ge-of-hellgate
Poof! All gone. A good example of what happens when you release a game before it's ready, then give mediocre support and a bad subscription plan.
For every WoW, there's about 5 of these.

this is what happens when you value hype over content, and BTW the comic miniseries spinoff or whatever they call it SUCKS.

It had a lot of problems, although it was still an interesting game. But I still have to emphasize on a LOT of problems.
At least ANet can learn something from this. Let's just hope they don't screw up in a similar fashion. One ex-Blizz side group down, one to go : (

Hellgate was a flop but Mythos was getting extremely good reviews. Always sad to see small, independent game studios go down.

i don't understand Kotaku at all, they have a rather eye catching logo, with nicely selected colors to match and yet the whole webpage is *ahem* so unorganized, O.o just weird

Never played HGL, but I really hope something happens to keep mythos going. Its a great game, and a great team working on it.

Took me ages to find, wiki is super hard to use.
Anyways, meh. Didn't try HGL, mainly because of all the problems. Mythos is great, and i hope someone takes over.

The best part about this whole situation is that HGL's unsubscribe page has been down since the last 4 days! They'll get another month's fee from a lot of people =P

I beta'd Hellgate: London, and I knew from the start there was nothing there. "Everyone loves RPG's and everyone loves FPS's, why not combine the two?!!?!?!?!" Great concept, but incredibly poorly executed, I never did buy the game.

And so Guild Wars, outlived HGL!
You have probably heard by now, but the Ex-Blizzard Devs who made a company called Flagship Studios(and the people behind Hellgate London) are now closing down.
It's funny with people on Hellgate Guru said that HGL would "kill" Guild Wars, and steal it's players due to an "Free mode".
Man, what a downward spiral for does guys. When HGL was unvieled at E3 many years ago, many people started calling it the spirituel Diablo 2 successor! Just like Guild Wars had the title before! And just like Sacred and Fate, people everywere seems to hate these games for not being like Diablo in all ways.
I think there are many valuable lessons for Arenanet to learn from Flagships demise. The founders of Arenanet probably know the HGL founders very well, since they worked together at Blizzard North.
But what's not funny is actually that Flagship had another little cute free MMO called Mythos that got rave reviews and was loved by many, which is now being handed over to Habitsoft. A Korean developer, which is notorious for making the most hardcore grinding games, that they love so much. In other words - That game is pretty much dead.
That's really sad.
It just boggles my mind how well GW has managed to hold up, when you see all these other games around you fail and do mistakes. Somehow along the line, GW managed to stay playable. When you think of the fact that most players hate or are dissapointed when games finally released because it didn't deliver on the promises, expectations and so on.
And thus another chapter of the internet online RPG history has concluded. I look forward to seeing how Dragon Age(Bioware) and Diablo 3(Blizzard) will be, when they finally are released.
I think I appreciate Guild Wars trackrecord much more now. Sometimes it's just hard to be objective, when the grass is greener in the other instanced area!

I was very enthousiastic about Hellgate, but the Darwinistic payment system killed it for me. Not to mention a video in wich a guy fired a machine gun at a slow moving flying creature for minutes without taking it down.

Gloating about someone that tried their best but failed, you sir are a prick.
A.Net is a pretty flower up company in any way possible, i was once a big fan of them untill they screwed the game.
