D3 isn't an MMO, it's an action RPG. Action RPG's don't have monthly fees, they don't even have to be played online. D3 is going to be a completely different genre of game than GW2, as GW2 is now confirmably an MMO in the WoW vein sans fees. I've always said I wouldn't play WoW even if it was free, I'm certainly not going to play something WoW-like just because it is. Given a choice between an action RPG and an MMO, I'll take the action RPG every time.

Ignorant people please refrain from posting.
Diablo 3 is an RPG, not MMORPG. The singleplayer content on itself defeats all that is Guild Wars lore and character/skill gameplay. The multiplayer is free and played through Battle.net --- If you have no idea what that is, ask around or google.
For one, D3 has released gameplay footage, screenshots, cinematics and character/location infos, unlike GW2. But seeing how I am not ignorant, I will not bash GW2, because D3 was probably in the making since less then a decade.
Now IMO, I will get both. The first computer I bought back in 2000 (note : with my own money) was designed to run Diablo 2. You may see how Diablo 2 fanatic I was back then. I also loved playing Guild Wars and am hoping GW2 will revive the flame I once had for the "cooperative" and "competitive" game that is Guild Wars. (Note to self : GW NEEDS MORE END GAME *STUFF*)
All in all, I hope to have cleared some misconceptions.

Diablo was my first love and still is!
But I will play both of course, I also find DiabloIII a bit too colourful but I'll get over it! :P
I hope GW2 and DiabloIII wont be available at the same time! :O I wont have enough time then.

If you buy them both when they come out they will cost $49.99. I am surprised that so many people have to pick and choose. I guess I figured that people had $100 in the bank.
As for me I will purchase Diablo 3. As for Guild Wars 2 I am not sure. There isn't much info on Guild Wars 2 to make a decision yet. But if Guild Wars 2 looks good then I'll pick up. After all it's just $49.99, and video games offer the best entertainment for your buck... I can get hundreds of hours of entertainment out of a good game.

I'll be stickin with GW2.
Diablo 3 = Glorified crossbreed between D2 and dungeon siege = piece of crap.
I don't know about you, but what I loved about D2 was it's monotony. I'm not being sarcastic. I loved the graphics, I loved the calm music, I loved the corny sound effects, I even loved the bad voice acting. All I think when I see screenshots and videos from D3 is that it will NEVER live up to what Diablo used to be.
Point: Diablo is a great MEMORY, and it should stay that way, in my opinion. There's no sense in ruining by bringing it back after almost a decade.

I may do neither if GW2 sucks. Though if D3 and GW2 come out at the same time, GW2 will be screwed.

Yeah they need to pick their release carefully or they could be completely looked over.
I say both...isn't that the best thing about GWs, you cna go without playing for a while and jump right back in and still not miss much, if GW2 isn't like that, then I don't want anything to do with it anyway.

I actually wish it looked more like the last two. This has too much Warcraft going on for my liking (see: too colourful and cartoony/cheesy for its own good).
Guild Wars was the first game I thought finally got 3D graphics right for RPGs (that is, until Oblivion came out).
My three favourite games of all time are static: Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, Diablo, and so my mind has been cemented in the idea that that is how RPGs should be. It doesn't help that the first 3D RPG I saw was Everquest, and to me that game blew on every level imaginable.

They made it clear that their target audience is the diablo fan base. So if you don't like Diablo 1/2, you'll probably not like 3. I'm happy that they stuck to their roots and made an isometric view. Though the art is definitely too colorful instead of dark, it doesn't look all that cartoony to me. If you go with trying to make it realistic, you start running into performance issues. When you're rendering 50 + monsters and 5-8 player characters on the screen at a time, you'll have to keep the polygon count into mind. The screens you see are just lower on poly count than a 'realistic graphics' game.
One of the major aspects of Blizzard games is low system requirements, smooth animations and completely stutter-free gameplay. But as I mentioned, the game needs to be darker. There's a long way to go till release, so the art direction changing is definitely possible. Here's a shot I picked up from another forum.

GW2.
I never found the allure of the Diablo series. I might just do the demo or something.
