Police brutality :(
Hi all,
I read an article in a French newspaper about NYPD brutality.
Here is the video which has been seen by more than 1 million people.
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=oUkiyBVytRQ
The article says that this is more & more frequent. I cant believe it.......but it is true.

Yea...that was in the news like a week ago... Obviously someone is getting sued and someone is getting fired. Im not sure why anyone would do that, but whoever was holding the camera probably got a lot of cash..

Upholding law should be done by robots. With AI emotions wouldn't play a roll in any of the decisions made, rather it would be a direct enforcement of protocol only when the terms are met. Same goes for soldiers, we need more robots in the army to kill more terrorists with fewer causalities. Which ever country develops a functional robot with intelligent AI that can be mass produced first will be the next world power.

OK, so I guess I was beaten to the "Old news is old" but yeah, this was like, around 2 weeks ago, at least.
Anyway, I heard that the cyclist tried to hit another police officer (obviously off-camera), so the officer in the video had to stop him. Obviously, conclusions are going to be jumped to when you only hear one side of the story (as clearly shown by the mass YouTube trolls). You don't go through rigorous training to uphold the law, then have no history of ever needlessly assaulting someone, and then just spur of the moment take someone down like that for no reason. Something had to have happened, but people are too ignorant to think for themselves these days, so they let YouTube do it for them.
I'm on the side of the officer on this one. Innocent until proven guilty.

The rider actually swerved to avoid the officer. The officer arrested the rider for attempted assault in the third degree, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. But it's the cop's word vs the cop's actions on video.
"In court papers, Pogan accused Long of purposely swerving his bicycle to block traffic and then using it as a weapon to run down the officer, knocking him off his feet and causing a "laceration" on his forearm. "You are pawns in the game. I'm going to have your job," Long told Pogan, as he flailed and kicked his arms and legs, according to the complaint."

Pogan has been on the force for just three weeks since graduating from the Police Academy on July 2.

The funny thing is that they did it on the NYPD. I've talked to cops in my home town and they were telling me about the training they go through to prevent Police Brutality. Its not really cheap, but my home town being small, its cheaper than the cost of a lawyer and the court case.
In NY its cheaper for the city to just pay off the claim if some one gets beat up by an officer than it is for them to pay for the anti-brutality training for all the cops.

guys should dig up new regarding these yourself, there's a lot of he says she says, in this case is the police says and the bicyclist says and the driver who apparently ran over a bicyclist legs says involve in this incident.
complicating things, bicyclist says car driver knock down bicyclist purposely, car driver says bicyclist is threatening to hit him so he panic and try to drive away and only then did he accidentally hit a bicyclist, but bicyclist says he hit more than one bicyclist, and polis says bicyclist try to run him down with a bicycle (rofl) and video says bicyclist definitely try to avoice the police officer .:P
search word Critical Mass, its very interesting, apparently the police department have an ongoing "grudge" with Critical mass for a stretch of 4 years.
apparently "The police have sent helicopters to track the riders as they roll through Manhattan on the last Friday evening of every month. They have stationed mobile command centers — the kind of trailer-size outposts set up after a major emergency like the collapse of a crane or a steam pipe explosion — near where the cyclists usually gather in Union Square." should not be that difficult finding out who's at fault now, would it? since there's a helicopter tracking everything, and hopefully they have films too.

That is what I love about these types of things. You only get to see what is caught on camera (in this case) or what the media wants you to see. You have no idea what that guy riding the bike did just 2 minutes before the rest happened.

If the police officer who ran him down really said that the bicyclist tried to run him down, that's some pretty big bullshit. You could actually see the cop walking towards him, the bicyclist trying to avoid him by going all the way to the left, and the cop just pushing him down.
Ah well, let's just wait and see, eh? Maybe if those choppers did take footage they may say what truly happened - if anything happened, that is.

Only problem would be that the US (CIA) would give it to people that later will use it against Americans (same as wepons to Bin Laden and Sadam Hussein)

just watch the source and make your own mind up.
granted its edited and biased no doubt but you can clearly see that its not just "one" cop picking on a dude. He was just obeying orders.
Don't blame the officer, blame the system.

I think robots would eventually turn on us and destroy humanity....but that's just me ^_^ Even though if I see robots in my lifetime, they'll probably turn on us after I'm dead
But ehm, yeah, officers carry out orders, same with soldiers...

No, the police officer said the bicyclist tried to run another officer down further up the road.
Personally, I think you can't believe everything mass media tells you. Newspapers are at least mostly credible, but CNN, FAUX, MSNBC, C-SPAN, they're all into spinning things their own way. "News" channels are becoming more and more like E!TV and VH1 every day. I only watch stuff like Hannity & Colmes just to get a good laugh.
I would honestly rather have Big Brother running news channels than the staff at CNN and Fox.

No Kanyatta the police officer was caught lying lol, he said the bicyclist try to run him down, after that the video surface and now people are writing letters to make them withdraw charges against the bicyclist.
excerpt from a news report
"A cyclist arrested in the latest rally was accused of riding straight into an officer in Times Square. But when a video surfaced last week showing the officer going out of his way to shove the rider off his bike, it seemed to surprise the city’s top officials."
