That's the only part I could see worrying people, and obviously it's not a problem. Data mining isn't new anyway (games with in game advertising do it).

You know that's more or less the sole attraction of Spore, right?

I disagree, I'm not making any 'inappropriate' creatures, and ones which are innappropriate are banned as soon as they are reported.
That is like saying that the sole purpose of GW is to make a mending wammo and play the game in nothing but your underwear.
You also have the choice to block whatever creatures you like from the sporepedia from your game.
Theres a video here covering the Science behind spore it makes a very good watch for learning a bit more about the game:

What's wrong if you are playing the game if you are only wearing underwear? As long as you don't tell anyone, it isn't going to change a thing.

Spore is a great game. Very unique, and creative. More games should be as creative.

Heard of Sim Life already? Spore is basically just a vamped up newer version of that... But I do agree with you.. more games should break free of the mould and try to diversify away from the holy trinity (FPS/RTS/RPG). Its no wonder games like the Sims have become so popular.. they dont have any competition.

Does anyone know if this leaked one is the same as the free trial, or the bought copy? And...does anyone know the difference between the free and the paid?

Procedural generation. Basically those creatures are not pre made models with textures (or very little of them), it's generated by algorithms. There's only so much you can do and still make it workable on lower end machines.

I had never ever heard of this game before o.O!!!
But it is just Maxis improving on one of their earlier ideas. The thing that both The sims, and now Spore have that other games dont is creativity. You can customise and create the game from the ground and up. Although I never really did like The Sims much, it was definately different, creative, and unique.
Spore on the otherhand doesnt look too unique, it just looks to be the best god game ever made. No other game has the scope that Spore does, although the game does borrow ideas from others in each of its stages.
Cellular Stage = Pacman
Creature Stage = Black and White
Tribal Stage = The Sims
City Stage = Sim City / Civilization
Space Stage = Imperium Galactica II
So you pretty much get a little of all of those games thrown into one.

Wow that article shows a screenshot of a level being contained in 100 KB rather than 200-300 MB of data! I'm impressed.

Someone should make a Charr in the creator creator or imagine your own Asura race.
