The Inauguration
Anyone else watch it? Gotta say that stuff was pretty awesome. Glad I could be a part of this historical moment lol. Wish I could get transported with that amount of security lol, that Cadillac limo was pretty sick as well.

I heard some of it on the radio. A little bit of it pissed me off. A few parts of it scared me. Still, it was well delivered.

More pretty words. Lets see if he can actually deliver or will he merely go down in history as a good speech writer.

Yeah, alot of the lines started in ways that I might have interpreted in very bad ways if I hadn't heard all of it. Also, it was written in a sterner way, which most analysts are comparing to way Bush would speak (speak sternly against terrorists/enemies).
He always gives a good speech, whether or not you agree with the substance...

Yeah, as I have heard other places and I have gone around saying today, 8 years of continual butt rape (can i say that on guru? O.o) is finally OVER!!! WOOT!!!
Today, if nothing else, is the celebration of the peaceful transition of power and the fact that the Dream once envisioned by MLK jr. has to some degree come to fruition.
Personally I thought there was a tad too much religious feeling put into the Inaugural, and I feel that Obama and Dianne Feinstein were the only ones who didn't put out some controversial, almost offense stuff.
But for today, we can celebrate the fact that we will no longer have a president who thinks "misunderestimate" is a word.

This is the english language we are using here. Give it another week and misunderestimate will be a word. We're really just waiting for M-W.com to update their website with it. Bush is a genius I tell you.

this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control — and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous.

Obama voted to do just that (bailout) and the markets should be allowed to control themselves. Early on that is difficult because inevitably people will screw up, but when they learn no bailout is coming, they or their surviving competitors will eventually learn not to make the same mistakes. Also this current crisis was created in no small part by the federal government creating businesses and regulations which ended up in the sub-prime collapse.

Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake.

The bailout and half of the government programs in existence are america's attempt to give up those rights for expedience's sake.

I dunno why we did that, considering how FDR and early to mid 20th century liberals were the american contemporaries to those groups. We just added a to it.

As we consider the road that unfolds before us, we remember with humble gratitude those brave Americans who, at this very hour, patrol far-off deserts and distant mountains. They have something to tell us, just as the fallen heroes who lie in Arlington whisper through the ages. We honor them not only because they are guardians of our liberty, but because they embody the spirit of service; a willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves.
|
There is an argument that america's military is so good because our soldiers aren't fighting for something greater than themselves, but they are fighting for themselves... for their own homes and children and liberty and not the king's, caesar's, or washington DC's property.
It should also be noted that trying to make americans sacrifice themselves for the greater good of the moment has been something every liberal fascist has tried to do since Wilson. First it was wars, then it was something other than wars.

What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility — a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world

America is founded on the principle of freedoms, not duties. Particularly freedom from excessive government, freedom from tyranny. Whatever duties I take on it is only because I, my faith, and my reason call me to them. Not washington DC.

This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed

No, is the meaning of our liberty is that all people born have are created with certain rights as humans. We are free because we are meant to be free. That is why our government was created, to protect those freedoms of the people in that new nation from those who would deny them those freedoms. We do not have duties to everyone else because the new president or some other DNC lapdog dreamed them up.

Yea I heard it the ceremonies were nice but I thought the commentators on some of the channels such as abc got a little annoying talking about what a huge day it is. Yes we know now please stfu.
Grats to Obama, may you protect us as well as Bush did and pull us out of the economic slump.
Farewell Bush you will be missed by those of us that realized you never once dropped your values and you came out the same man you came in and didn't change, and for that you are a great American. You have kept us safe and enjoy retirement!

Haven't you heard?!
Apparently Obama is a God and has those effects on people to make them extremely nervous under the might of his divine powers. Obama threatened to smite 50,000 people in Africa if he didn't get to retake the oath!
