Maybe they know your friends too well.

Depending on your age, personality, and who your friends might be your parents could either be over protective or are doing the right things. Considering all the things kids do these days and what you hear on the news, making sure there is a reliable chaperon around is probably the best thing to do.

Judging from your name and the fact you would make a thread about your parents, I'm going to assume you're 10.

my mom was like that when I was a kid---but its was more because she couldnt drive, so she couldnt get us places, my dad had our ONLY car. So I wasnt allowed to go places unless I had a way of getting there and back again, most of my friends wouldnt come and pick me up.....so I hung out with the kid across the street and thats about it.

my mom is now 80+ and still calls my sister every sunday morning! If she cant get a hold of her then she calls me to ask where my sister is---uhm we are in our 40's now and my sister doesnt tell me where she is going (heck I only talk to her about 3 times a year--her bday, my bday and xmas).....go figure.

I seem to think that there is probably other reasons for your mom's behavior and you just arent aware of them.

Mine aren't that protective, they believe I can make suitable choices for myself and leave me to it. When it comes to serious shit like police involvement, that's when the line is drawn.

My parents were pretty cool qbout the whole 'going places' thing when i was growing up. I was allowed to walk 20mins to a shop from when i was about 8, i first got the bus into town with one friend when i was about 11, and i could go to any of my friends houses so long as they had a contact number. They didnt let my sister do anyof that though.

Myself, well id be just the same as my parents i think. Not that over protective, but i tiny tiny bit.

my parents don't like to see me riding my motorbike (im 26 now and live at my own place!)
it's annoying but at least they offer me to take their car instead.

if you are still a child things are different though

I grew up mormon. So I don't think that's over-protective...just controlling. There's a huge difference.

My parents are fine. If I want to go anywhere with my friends, they just want to know where I am.

My grandparents on the other hand, who I live with during the week, don't trust me at all. They still think I'm in 3rd grade or something. If I ever go out with my friends, even those I've had since 3rd grade, they think I'm out doing drugs or something and its really annoying.

My grandma was overprotective with my mother. Of course, I wasn't there, but my mom says so.

For example, grandma didn't let her swim in the sea. Because "it's too dangerous and you can get hurt".

Thank God my mom isn't making the same mistake. That's why as soon as I'm 17, I'm beginning my driver's license studies so whe I'm 18, I can freely drive.

Oh, I already know how to. My dad showed me. As misfit as he might be, he's not that bad.

My parents have always been fine with things, especially sleepovers....so I find it weird still when my best friend (who is now almost 19) still isn't allowed to sleep over at other people's houses. I guess in some cases it's a cultural thing...people having been brought up differently in the past and such.

You will always be a child in your parents' eyes, no matter how old you are. And look on the bright side, at least you still have parents that care about you.
