I've been told that people who don't know what Watchmen is think that the movie is going to be about an alien invasion after watching the trailer.
This is nicely ironic.

Okay, could someone give me a summation of what Watchmen is about? And skip the ''omg, u neva new 1t??/shift'', I just don't want to be confused when watching it.
Thanks in advance.

Not without major spoilers.
Just think super heroes without super powers (varieties of Batman, if you will), and the one dude who really has powers trying to make the world a better place.
That basic synopsis does not, in any way, do the novel justice.

I think it’s terrible what happened to “League of Extraordinary Men” and “V for Vendetta” which never got the true justice that those graphic novels deserved. However, "From Hell” the graphic novel about Jack the Ripper was okay in my opinion. I will tell you that Alan Moore is not sticking on his name on this, even though it might be better then some of film adaptations of his other work.

V is for Vendetta was experimental even in comic book format, it would have been more suited to a TV series tbh.
and yeah LoEG was disappointing, the universe is SO rich and vast that again only a series could have done it justice.
this is the part where the artists integrity and vision goes head to head with the immediate gratification and profit culture.
way to go spoiling the film for those that would have liked to see Watcher Zwei.

Oh come on, surely, they must see I was jesting.
(Ain't it cool how facts can be twisted and twisted again to state something completely different? BTW, there are pirates in there too .)
Anyway, there is no really good way to describe Watchmen in few lines, because it is based a lot on deconstructing superhero tropes, sometimes bordering on parody, mixed with more serious issues. Plus there is that whole symbolism thing. Result is great, but you just can't describe it without making it look silly.

I saw the trailer in batman... First I've heard of the group.
That Tropic of Thunder movie looked more to my tastes.

Your bad taste doesn't exist just in videogames, I see.

Meh. I'm not a fan of the director. The movie looks to be too heavy on computer graphics for not going full CGI. And I've never heard of them because I've never been that in to comic books... I'm more of a manga guy.

I agree with the director.
They aren't comic books, its a Graphic Novel.

Hmm, Will Eisner's finest. Coincidentally, The Watchmen's Rorschach was apparently based on The Spirit.

I have a quick question.
Isn't Watchmen like an alternate Earth?

Well, yes - I guess so. In the same way that the Batman and Superman films are set in alternate Earths.

The Watchmen had affected the outcome of both the Veitnam War and Watergate prior to the events of the Novel. One in particular also had an impact on the cold war with russia. If I remember, Nixon is still president as well.... but yea, it's set in a 'what if' sorta world.

Holy shit. Deadpool is going to be in Wolverine? And it's Ryan Reynolds? That makes it an automatic win.
edit -Gambit as well? That can't be real. It's too awesome.
