In dutch lol actually is/already was a word =). It basicly means 'fun'.

I've been known to use the words "lol" and "rofl" as part of my regular spoken vocabulary. Pretty sure I only get away with it because of my boyish charm and rugged good looks though.

The most funny things is, some people say "lol" on Vent rather than actually laugh. Scary world we're living in.

thing is, it's not the interpretations or opinions of the words and phrases that the writer has chosen, it's the writer's wording of his title.
He has labelled it as the Ten Most Misused Words in MMOs. therefore many readers would be expecting MMO slang such as noob, pwn, QQ and the sorts.
However it was the opposite to that and he listed the top ten words used in the media ABOUT MMOs.
Example: #6 is Failure. he could have written a nice joking article of the internet craze of FAIL pics and videos. the word has transgressed into MMOs to generally call anyone who... fails... at the game. Instead, he explained how all other MMOs seem to "fail" against WoW's impressive, yet retarded, subscribers. also explaining before WoW, a high water mark was 300,000 subscribers. this can easily be seen as an article in the media...

So Mr. Writer, sir... please can you rephrase your article as:
Ten Most Misused Words In The Media About MMOs.

This will save your baby.
You have been warned.

Why bringing an article that seems to be talking from a WoW perspective and mostly about WoW to a GW forum?

Haven't seen that use myself, but I *have* used "noob" as a verb, as recently as yesterday.

You people here are far too serious about it. It is the writers opinion, it is not supposed to be 100% factual information.

Lol and ROFL are not actually misused words, they are used according to their definition, to indicate that something made you laugh.

WoW Clone is overused, Fail more overused then Failure, Vaporware was a fad from a month ago and beyond but otherwise I didn't really agree with it. As others have said, more like Top 10 Misused WoW Words. I figured we'd see words like n00b, lol, QQ, etc.

Actually, in that sentance, 'noob' is used as a noun. The verbs in those sentances are 'am' and 'are'. Using it as a verb would be like 'you really noobed that up didn't you'.
